At christmas on my way home to the UK I decided to do a bit of tourism because I havent had much oppertunity to do whilst I'm here (schools constant I dont get a week off). The plan was to go to Boston and stay with a friend for a day or two, then head up to New york city and stay with there realtives (I have two friends who offered a place in the city).

They assured me 100% that this would be ok so I went and booked my tickets. Both of them are working that week and cant go, my friend I'm stayting with in boston can take me around boston on the weekend but she cant take me to new york.

the only positive is I didnt book a flight to new york city because I thought we were driving.

Jen offered to put me up but thats way too much to ask of her since shes getting rid of her appartment in november and will be crashing on someone elses floor thats way too much of a favour to ask.

I appricate them letting me stay and everything but there not exactly making my life easy, I cant afford a hotel the cheapest was $135 a night and I'm already going to have to get a flight/bus up to the city and I cant cancel my flight from new york (I tried online).

sorry, man... it is wicked cheap to get to NYC from Boston, though. $15 one way on greyhound if you book online.

$135 a night? What kind of hotels were you looking at?

Not doing the exchange thing then?

understandable it doesnt half brake the bank, to be honnest as long as your on a meal plan you'll survive if you were to do the exchange, your biggest problem would be alchol, first year students (who you'd be living with) usually go out five nights a week and most of those nights will be pub crawls since its going to be about $6 a drink its not a cheap night out.

On the summer trip would you have time to leave the group and meet up with other people?

Boston Hotels are expensive, sadly, but you can definitly find one for less than 135 a night. There's one in Brighton [a neighborhood in Boston] that I think is somewhere around 70 a night. It's right next to an IHOP too, bonus!

Also, the Fung Wa bus from Chinatown to NYC is 20 dollars, so that shouldn't be an issue.

No youth hostels in Boston?

Oh ahha they're 10 dollars, sorry. And it's spelled Fung Wah. From Chinatown to Chinatown.

It's a Days Inn on Soldier's Field Road, but it's 88, not 70, and really isn't worth that.

I'll bet there are Youth Hostels somewhere in the city, but I really have no idea.

But definitely, Fung Wah is the way to get from Boston to NYC.

http://www.fungwahbus.com/

It's cheap, fast and dangerous.

Plus everyone rides it.

Like your mom.
