I've been thinking of upping and leaving the UK for quite a while and as much as I'ds like to live in the states its pretty unrealistic (the requirements, are marriage to an american citzen, a garentied job, or investing $500,000 into a buisness) and I'm studying in canada at the moment and though I'm not where I'd like to be I like it here.

So I'm looking to imigrate as soon as I qualify, I want to be in a big city, so vancouver, ottawa and toronto.

I was looking into the process for Ontario and according to them to live in their province I have to apply for canadian citzenship with the federal goverment then I have to apply with the province which means I might not get citzenship in Ontario.

If I had the money, I'd like a summer home in Ottawa. It's gorgeous in July.

I've never been to Ottawa, but I'm going for a week soon, it seems nice.

I have to put my vote in for Vancouver though.

I think Vancouver has enough of an Asian delegation to need my representation :p

I just went through a practice application and after a year of being out of university I have 61 points, I need 67.

even if I had arranged employment that only pushes me up to 66.

Imigration to canada works on a point system, to come over as a skilled worker I have to earn 67 points but a year out of university I dont meet the requirements and it means I have to do a career of a job I'm not that interested in.

Oh. So am I right in thinking that you need more experience in your chosen field, in the UK, to earn enough points?

In that case, is it worth it to wait a year?

waiting two years only pushes me up two points, waiting on experience the only way to get enough points is to wait 4 years.

thank you for making me think! If I study hard to a point where I have a basic understanding of french I have enough points to get me into the country.
