So maxim canada voted chicago the number one toughest city in the states.

The reasons?

unemployment is at 5.2%, 20% of women smoke, its gloomy 168 days of year and apparantly the cubs are bad.

There's no way Chicago's tougher than LA. Or Detroit.

Yaak B.C. is my best bet for toughest.

What part of BC specifically though?

Vancouver, most people are too stoned to be violent. But if you go like, two metres too far out of Gastown, it's pretty bad.
stubby43

Honnestly I dont think its the big cities that are rough, Reginas famous for having the roughest hood in canada.
Polyester Jones
Polyester Jones on Oct 09 '07 at 9:22am
Vancouver's got a major drug problem, and the ethnic gangs are becoming more prevalent. Toronto can be pretty rough though, shootings, gangs.

LA is the opposite of tough.

The neighbourhood in Toronto where I live has a terrible reputation for violence, but I actually find it incredibly safe. I dare anyone else in the world to find me another neighbourhood that so completely blends hip-hop-gangbangers with strict Orthodox Jews.

I find it funny that Columbus is on there but Cinci and Cleveland aren't. They are worse than Columbus. Cincinnati is awful.

It's the Orthodox Jews you gotta watch out for...my god, did you hear about poor Timmy? Got jumped by a pack of Mennonites outside of Brandon last night...

I wonder what the criteria are?

I mean... gloomy days don't bother me. If they're factoring in weather that's sort of... subjective?
squintygirl
squintygirl on Oct 09 '07 at 10:07am
Weather can be a consideration when rating the 'livibility' of a city, but it is very subjective. In the summer, for instance, Ottawa is a beautiful place, but I'd rather live in Cracktown than in Ottawa during the winter.
squeegebeckenheim
squeegebeckenheim on Oct 09 '07 at 10:08am
I don't think of weather when I think of a city's toughness.

margolove
margolove on Oct 09 '07 at 10:20am
drug deals don't mean anything! I've overhead coke deals in the common room at school and it's full of namby pamby, nonthreatening suburbanites.
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Oct 09 '07 at 10:21am
What about DC and NYC? Obviously they're not on there because the extremely rich people must have brought the mean income up, but..that doesn't actually make a difference, I don't think.

How are we even defining "tough"? It looks like they're saying the most "hood" cities, but to be honest I find cut throat wall street suites way more heartless and intimidating than the "gangstas" I've been exposes to.

Then again, I'm from Boston, where the thugs are like pussycats.
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Oct 09 '07 at 10:22am
Well, Margo, there's a better indication than the number of women who smoke. PLEASE!
kiLLyou
kiLLyou on Oct 09 '07 at 10:24am
That list dont mean shit yo
margolove
margolove on Oct 09 '07 at 10:24am
that statistic's not really an accurate indication because I bring it up by about 300% in whatever city I happen to be in.
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Oct 09 '07 at 10:26am
Misleading lists make me so angry in such a petty way!

Lets tally a bunch of Canada's misogynists, ask them about cities they've probably never been to, and then attach percentages to their opinions to make it look official!!

Why did I ever click this blog???
