Turns out small town Manitoba is really small.

Out in the praires

I'm in a town with about 1200 people and apparently thats pretty big for the prairie provinces, I don't think I'm cut out for small town life at all, I thought I lived in a small town (15,000 people) and in the country (Cheshire) turns out I don't.

It was nice though, my friends family is amazing and made me feel apart of the family which is great because I haven't been home in a long time and I'm not going home till Christmas.

and I got to experience small town life, we drove around the entire town in 15 minutes, went to the only bar were literally everyone knows everyone in the entire place, I went on the game machines and won back the money I spent on drinks!

Roblin!

Then today we went to church (which reaffirmed that I don't believe in god) , then we went up to their grandparents farm (I'm amazed at how much land they own and for them its a small plot, about a mile by a mile).

I shot a gun for the first time, a riffle. It was weird but kind of cool, I was just shooting at a target. I thought it was going to be this big scary thing (I mean its something that can kill) but after being where I was I understand why the farmers have it.

I hit the box!

So my opinion on guns has changed a bit, I used to be outright against them but i think hunting riffles are acceptable out in the country, anything after that is a no, I held a hand gun in upstate new york and I was disgusted by it, because a hand gun is for killing people, it has no practical purpose (if your hunting you really don't want to get close).

And quite possibly the highlight, I got to drive a tractor!

After spending time at the farm (and having the grand tour and loosing my glasses for three hours) we went back to my friends house, had thanksgiving dinner, went for a walk around the lake and then played cards.

Its been a really nice weekend, I didn't like the drive because I'm not used to it but whatever, you know I'm out here to experience how people live and honestly thats the first time I've felt like I've experienced that in Canada.

Repubblica, theres no need to get pissy, of course canadas a vast and diverse country, I experienced a bit of canadian life but its a life that alot of people live, almost everyone I've met at university come from a small town and I'm out in the prarie provinces, thats basically life for about 3 million people (or at the very least they've experienced it).

I'm obviously going to get a very different expereince if I go to vancouver or toronto.

Brett, the pictures will be here on tuesday I just cant be arsed uploading them, oh and I'm glad you like small towns personally I couldnt live there but I had a good time.

Oh and I got to drive home! I'm tired so I wont go into much detail but its way different from driving in the uk, just one speed for 4 hours.

There used to be a town in Saskatchewan called Tiny. It dwindled away to nothing.....Google Maps can't find it. Last time I recall seeing a sign for it, it was Pop.3, and that was sometime in the 1980s. It was just off Hwy.5, between Canora and Buchanan.

It appears on this (old?) map, though, along the top edge. Roblin's also on this map, and as you can see by the size of the dot, it's pretty major by comparison:

wow, tiny really is tiny, we dont even have a name for something that size, it not a town, not a village I dont think it would even be a hamlet.

Great story and pics Stubby!! And you will be glad to know that hundreds of small Canadian towns in all provinces look just like that - church and all, so you have seen them all now.

You will love the big city too!
