Ok over on the threadless mish mash group Chelly had the amazing idea of printing a book up, apparantly you can use this company to get a proffessional book printed:

blurb

Well first of all chelly wants permission from you guys to print a book for herself, but shes already stated she doesnt want the responsibility of publishing a book for everyone.

But I'm really into the idea and would like to make a go of it but I was wondering how many people would be interested in buying?

the price could range from $12.99 (soft cover) up to $160.

Personally I'm leaning to a hard back cover book in standard format (Standard Landscape: 10x8 inches (25x20 cm). Standard Portrait: 8x10 inches (20x25 cm). with about 240 pages.

the book would probably cost about $40 - $50 but it can be done cheaper it just means less stuff in it.

I want to do it as a proper book and I'd like as many people to be involved in it as possible for example if anyone was willing they could help design art work for the cover or other pages within the book.

Some of the ideas I had for the book would be:

photos of the group sorted by the days
Profiles of each of the bloggers who attended (a photo and a little bio)
Plus the staff
Scans fromt he sketch books
plus all the free stuff that was kindly given out
and people writing about their experiences

There are a few ways that we can go about it, we can do the book at cost, do the book so that a few of us make a little profit (we'll of put alot of hours into it) or it could sell for a profit but the money go to a future blogger raiser.

So my question is would people be interested in buying a book?
would they be interested in working on said book?
would people be willing to share all the stuff from the mish mash?
And how do you feel about the money aspect?

The idea is a little overwhelming for me, but if any of you end up going through with it, I'd be happy to let you include my photos.

It's definitely a good idea, though very ambitious and possibly expensive. I'd love to contribute, though I don't know if I could afford one if it was really expensive.

that would be over a thousand pictures, and some of them (like mine) would be terrible quality

but it is handy because the QOOP lets you drag and drop the photos from the group

Actually its not that expensive, the way the service works the price I said is the one it'll cost to make, the only cost on top of that would be postage so as long as every agrees to do things for free it'd be quite cheap.

I really would only want to start on something like this if a decent amount of people would be willing to buy.

I wouldn't be able to afford $160 for a hard cover though. That's almost as much as my plane ticket!

for most of my adult life i've worked in publishing due to my love of layout/design

but this is a huge project

and so many people had totally different experiences

i would be worried that i didn't cover it all

The book would probably cost about $40 plus postage.

Chelly I think its safe to assume that we wouldnt be able to cover everyone, just an over view and anyway theres always people who have more to say than others, thats how it works out in life.

I think we should all just make our pictures available for everyone to use. Make your own books. :]

$40 wouldn't be too bad, but I agree with Chelly

Chelly - I definitely hear you on that!

It also says, "If you want to order multiple copies of a new book, order one copy first to make sure it’s perfect, and then place the order for the balance.'"

So does that mean the same book can be ordered one at a time? In that case, Phil, you might want to make the book you want, and let people know how to get copies for themselves (if possible).

ladykat on Sep 20 '07 at 4:10pm
Anyway, the honest truth is that I almost certainly wouldn't buy one, but again, I'd be happy to let you use my pictures if there are any you'd like to put in a book!

Cool, well I do want a copy for myself thats for certain but will people be willing to help out?

Its such a huge project I mean I dont even know everyone that went, so I need to make a list of all the bloggers who showed up:

User name, real name
chelly
chelly on Sep 20 '07 at 4:18pm
i think you can use the list that i sent to everyone and then mark off the people that absolutely didn't make it

I'd buy one for $40. I could contribute as well to a degree. I have a lot of projects on the queue that I have to knock out, but I could do some small things.
