Ok guys some of you may no or not but I've traveled from the uk to sasketchewan and unfortunatly I've been ill for quite a bit of it but this first time I got ill was because I drank the water.

So my question is, if I boil up the water will it be ok to drink?

Probably.

Is there not bottled water available to you?

I didn't know the water was bad there! Bizarre.

Yeah, generally if you boil it for 1 minute, you're good to go.

You can also get chlorine tablets to mix with cold water.

Are you sure it's the water that's making you sick? When I was in Europe last summer I drank the water in three different countries and didn't have any problems.

We were at a football game and by chance a there was a british guy in front of me we got talking and I mentioned I was ill, he asked me if I'd been drinking the local water.

I was throwing up both ends and it took two days to recover.

A girl from alberta told me they use a different filtering system here so she boils here water as well.

I didnt have this problem in new york.

That sucks. I've had the same problem when travelling. i never drink the water away from home, and usually ask for no ice in my drinks also. Fountain drinks are already cold, anyway.

It's certainly safe to drink....you're in Canada, not Bolivia.

If it's the different mineral content that's making you sick, I don't think you'll be able to boil it away.

you could always buy a brita filter and carry that with you on your travels

Julie, that's what I always thought it was, when I would get sick.

You could always just drink beer the whole time.

I had no idea the water was bad up there.

Yes: Unless the water is irradiated or something equally horrific boiling it will make it safe. It might still taste terrible, but it won't hurt you.

Good point by JuliaJeremiah, if you're just reacting poorly to mineral content boiling isn't going to help.

Well I think its the mineral content that made me ill, I dont really no what to do because I need to drink lots of liquid (I'm ill again, this time cause my room is fucking cold) but all I have is beer and whisky.

It's not "bad".....fuck, you're making my province sound like some back-country pisshole. He's just not used to it.

If you don't think you're going to adjust, go rent a Culligan or similar brand water cooler....you can fill those huge bottles for less than a dollar.

Nah, I don't mean you....I mean the couple of bloggers who are saying, "oh....I didn't know the water was bad up there..."

Julie's right...seriously, this country has the best tap water in the world.

Drink bottled if you need it.

Referring to areas that are more Northern than where I reside as "up there" is derogatory now? Sheesh.

Please note that both me and Kate were surprised that the water was problematic. It's not something unheard of though. Water quality is municipal in the US, so there is a lot of variance. There are places where I won't drink tap water.

Also: The sled dogs bring you the water in oak barrels right?

No, we just suck it right off of glaciers.

Al Gore told me there are no more glaciers in Canada.
