I just got a letter through the post saying that my package is too big to deliver so now I have to go to the post office, pick it up and pay £11.51 (its a customs charge) for it.

The only thing I've ordered are two threadless tee shirts.

Is anyone else having the same problem?

I really think threadless needs to raise its price for posting because I've heard of other people haveing to do this.

i thought big packages were a good thing?

stubby43 on Jul 05 '07 at 3:56am
Nope the note said it was too large to deliever via my letter box.

Its now going to cost me £36.51 for a regular threadless tee and a select one when it should of cost £25, or in dollars $73.62 when it should of cost $51.

I feel extremely ripped off, I mean I know its not threadless's fault but this is enough to put me off ordering tee shirts online completly.

you should contact the staff about alternate methods of shipping.

That sucks a bunch. Plus I would freak out if my shirts cost that much.

Royal Mail is really getting on my tits at the moment. I've only had to pay customs the once, on two regular and one long-sleeved sale shirts, but it was my birthday last week, and I got a slip earlier in the week saying that a parcel had been delivered that was too big for my postbox.

So I went to the delivery office, was told they didn't have it, and have now been down there three times, each time being told that they don't have it. I eventually called the Royal Mail customer service people, and after three days they got back to me and left me a message on my phone.

Apparently the postman doesn't remember anything about this, and has no idea where the parcel could be. They said it MIGHT be at the local Post Office (except I work 8.30-5.00, so I can't go get it til Friday or Saturday morning), but they have no idea.

If it's not delivered within two weeks, I can make a claim for compensation. The problem is, I have NO IDEA what the parcel is. I received all the packages I was expecting for my birthday, and I don't know who this mysterious package is from, let alone what it contains. So how do I claim compensation?

Gah!

They've probably ticked the wrong box on the card. It'll have nothing to do with the size and everything to do with the value of the package. The goods are worth $40 (£20), and you are only allowed to import £18 without customs charges. They also work out what you need to pay them on the value of the postage too!

Yeah, had it happen to me for my last lot of shirts. £13.70-something.

Also had it for other things shipped from amrerica.

The problem is royal mail changed its posting rules recently, it used to be nice and simple put a 1st class stamp on the parcel and off it goes but the other day to post the pick it forward project camera I had to put three first class stamps on it and go inside and have even more put on because it was still to heavy.

Its ridiclous, on mothers day I posted my mum a card, she had to go to the post office to pick it up and pay an excess because it was underpaid.

When I first joined threadless I could order two threadless tee's at a time it would be delievered to the door and there would be no customs charge in fact i once ordered three and had no problems.

I've had a similar problem 13strong. Gone down to collect a parcel with the slip and there is no sign of it. Again, the postman had no idea what happened to it. Luckily I was waiting for two parcels, so I could claimed the one that didn't turn up. F*ckers!

But that means were only allowed to ship one tee shirt at a time.
deboraborialis
deboraborialis on Jul 05 '07 at 4:17am
But you ordered a select, which added $10 to your order. Your orders of three shirts were lucky not to be charged.

Two normal shirts ($15) should be fine.

Basically, if the goods in the package are valued at more than $30, then you'll pay a customs charge. They're also introducing charges for simply HANDLING packages which incur customs charges, but I didn't get stung on that one, for some reason.

The annoying thing is, even if you use vouchers or STPs to buy the shirts, they still put the normal value of the goods on the package, so you end up paying customs, even though you didn't actually spend more than $30.

Vindemiatrix on Jul 05 '07 at 5:34am
Something like this happened to me, only even more ridiculous: it was one sale longsleeve, which should have been fine, but Threadless somehow mistyped the value as $170 on the customs declaration and I had to pay £23 to get it from the Post Office!! Since the correct value was on the sticker with my address and order number on it, I managed to prove the real value to them by showing them the sticker and the invoice, but it still took months for them to sort it out and refund my £23 ($46).

Gutted, from now on I'm only ordering a tee shirt at the time it really isnt fair that we have to pay a customs charge.

I dont see why that would be a problem as long as you dont use it up or loose it (something I would do if I were drunk).

The state is a bunch of crooks. What else do you expect from people who can hold your package hostage for profit?

Don't blame threadless, it's not their fault.

I know its not what you want to hear just now... but i had two delivered at the beginning of the week, no problem. And i've never been charged anything extra for customs or import duty or anything.

I'd call them up on it. Kick some ass

btw stubby, why is your website called i'm right your wrong, but the url is the mirror of that?
13strong
13strong on Jul 05 '07 at 7:24am
The customs thing is because you bought a regular T and a Select T. The overall value of which is $40. Anything over $30 is gonna get you a customs charge. Which is why SEVEN-HUNDRED didn't get charged, and you have.

Still shit though, but there ain't much that can be done. I presume they're being extra tight about it because the dollar is really weak at the moment, compared to the pound, so they need to find some way to stop people buying everything from the US.

It also doesn't matter if you used STP or vouchers. You're still importing goods into the country. The handing charge is shite though. I bought a shower gel for £20 and ended up having to pay £8.50 in charges, half of which was the handing charge.

Well I'm going to kick up a bit of a fuss about this because I dont think I should be charged for nearly half my package I was only £5 over the limit but it will probably be to no avail.

Staffel, the reason the name of the site and the web address dont match is someone had already registered the name im right your wrong, the annoying thing is if you search for it no one is using that blogspot address.

It'll be recitfied once I've registered a website.

Yeah, you have to buy Selects on their own to avoid paying for customs, which is pretty much the price of another bloody tee.

This means I'll never be able to buy a hoody :(

I'm lucky in that I live in a village, with a community and a regular postman. So although the package is too big, it just gets left outside my door, no worries.

The strike on Friday almost messed up my bursary application for Uni though (still might've done) grrr

You'll be onto plums. I think you can claim back part of the charge (can't remember which bit) but it's only a really small amount. You are only allowed to import up to a limit, if you go over that limit you get charged for the whole lot. That's just the way it is, and complaining will not change it.

I had to pay $110 in goods & services tax for one of my recent orders.... I wanted to argue with customs but the woman behind the counter looked like she belonged in the SS...& the wrestling team.

OK Im scared to order anything for delivery here in the UK now - sounds like they ALWAYS tax you?? PLUS with the ridiculous door mail slots. the package will ALWAYS be too big.

I've only been charged twice, in 16 orders.

They tried to charge me for my last order, but love found a way.
13strong
13strong on Jul 16 '07 at 5:09am
angelito - they don't ALWAYS charge you for customs - only orders over $30. Sp you can order two regular shirts at a time, and the package will be small enough to fit through the average letter box.
