i seem to like black standup comedians. off the top of my head my favourite standup acts have been bill cosby, eddie murphy, richard prior, and dave chapelle.
old bill cosby, old robin williams, brian reagan, chris rock, george carlin
its two different kinds of humor to me though, british humor generally gets teh snide low chuckle where as american humor gets teh belly laugh .. seeing as I like both im glad that there are both
Now Chris rock is someone who depends on swearing for laughs which is just lazy.
I'm trying to think of australian stand ups, but the only one I know is Claire Hooper but her best stuff isnt online. I saw her on last comic standing, she recently did a show where she didnt speak once in it using pre recorded stuff, music and sign language.
One of my favourite jokes she was about learning sign language but she concetrated on stuff you'd never use like:
"Im behind this wall" and "As a child I lost my arms"
I'm torn re: Russel Brand. He's certainly quick witted, but he never seems to know when to stop with a joke. OK, Mr Brand I've laughed. Next gag please.
Weird margo. I thought Peter Kay's humour lies in his humorous observations about Northern family life. Wouldn't have thought it would appeal to a non-Brit.
I've never really watched Russel Brands stand up, i saw him on Johnathon ross and that was amazing, simply because he told a story about a time when he attempted to steal porn from a service station with a police officer right behind him and ended up getting arested for drugs.
Carl Barron was good, some of the jokes were very australian but I still liked him, I liked Arj Barker but hes american.
Aussie stand-ups are great. I love Lee Evans and Bill Bailey but Sean Lock is my favourite at the moment I think. Gervais was never made for stand-up. I've seen Brand compare and he is funny, but a lot of his stand-up is based on reading The Sun newspaper - which is funny, but not quite as creative as the likes of Bailey or Evans.
Why is it the all of the BBC3 comedies and sitcoms for the last 5 years have been absolute dog shit and struggled to make it past 2 seasons. With the exception of Two Pints Of Lager, which I think is occasionally funny, but generally low denomination slow-witted humour.
