Ok I figured it was time to start using the discussion blog in a less confusing way, if we need to discuss things I'll post it in here so everyone can see, then delete it when its resolved and bump it at the bottom.

First of all some people arent completly happy with the name of the project and since we havent commited to anything we can still discuss it.

Right now were operating under the name of pic it forward but we are using the travellingcamera@gmail.comemail address (where still looking for more participants, please sign up). it might be better at some point in the future to have an email address that matchs the projects title.

Some of the suggestions for a different name are

Display It Forward
Snap it forward
threadless traveling camera

Next on the agenda

I think we need to find out how much it will roughly cost to post a camera both internally and internationally, though the slight problem with that is the more stuff we are putting in the package the heavier it will get.

Are we sticking with just the camera and the notes or are we adding other stuff into it, small things like post cards and so on, something emidate that the people will get when it arrives with them.

Will the recvier keep the "gift" and add their own to send to the next individual?

or will it grow into a bigger collection, other things we can upload and show to people.

and finnally for the end of the project will all the cameras be sent to one individual, or will each ender develop the photos.

The only reason I ask is that if the photos are decent and people want them, the person with all the film could get it developed and sent out to any individual who wants a hard copy, though they'd have to pay the development fees as well as postage.

and I think we need to decide on a standard method of uploading, personally I think if we scan them in there will be too much varience, it would be better if they were all the same size.

Next on the agenda

Should we have our own website?

What about a scrap book?

If anyone has any issues they wish to bring up just tell me and I'll put it up at the starting blog.

theoretically, we wouldn't have to be willing to post anywhere if there's less than a 100 ppl signed up and the results are going to be shared on a web site. also, shouldn't we first make sure that KillYou is ready to ship all of the cameras to different locations?
stubby43
stubby43 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:18am
true, but the other option is we all go out and buy a disposable camera and post it anyway.
foreignPorn
foreignPorn on Jun 06 '07 at 9:20am
you know what...it might be a better idea to just buy disposable cameras.

Im down for buying a camera and posting pics.

I think we should only post the pictures at the very end, I love the idea of camera I end up with traveling all over the world and I sort of like the idea that it wont have my photos on it.
chelly
chelly on Jun 06 '07 at 9:22am

i'd still be willing to take some disposables off of KillYou's hands.

stubby43 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:24am

rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:24am
ok so i say we gather... peoples names and address who are willing to do this...

and use that to make a list of picture takers... come up with a random order and print out intenerary for the camera... and mail it with the camera...

rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:33am
i think the neatest thing about all this will be that it a disposable and film so you only get one chance to take your pic...no digital technology hindering the capturing of the singal moment of that picture... anyway we can capture that idea in a name??

ecky_ducky
ecky_ducky on Jun 06 '07 at 9:34am
I think it might be a good idea to have each camera move through maybe two countries, so avoid each person paying buttloads and increasing the time period between the next person getting it.

Good idea?
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:35am
if thats what we want to go with i'm fine with pic it forward project... or PiFP... that looks cool

foreignPorn

So I accidently forgot my username on my first email :)

ecky_ducky
ecky_ducky on Jun 06 '07 at 9:36am
Okay, I'm going to bed, but I demand that we send a few cameras to the Threadless offices, and get them to take a few pics before sending them on. :)

I'll be back when I get up to put in some more two cent pieces.

Yay travelling artwork!

Oh, and I really liked Chelly's idea of just saying to each camera receiver: 'Show us your world.'

I think that's a really awesome theme.
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:38am
"Show us YOUR world"

i dig that...
ecky_ducky
ecky_ducky on Jun 06 '07 at 9:38am
And rhythm, that's a good idea. Maybe have two or three global cameras, where you only take one photo each, and several region/country specific ones, where you can take a few. Wonderful!
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:38am
stubby are you setting up the blog?
Bramish
   Bramish on Jun 06 '07 at 9:39am
Someone should set up some guidelines for it.

Like, say each camera can take 20 photos, depending on the amount of cameras we have, and the amount of people involved, everyone should be allowed a specific number of photos to take, before passing it on.

The 'journeys' of each camera (the list of people it will go to) should be set before it begins.
kayceislost
kayceislost on Jun 06 '07 at 9:39am
i want in too, but i have to go to work, ill email you when i get back.

i was trying to get a similar project started with a travelling sketchbook, hopefully both will work out.
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:40am
yeah bramish your right... first things first is getting list of all who are interested in par-taking...
Bramish
   Bramish on Jun 06 '07 at 9:41am
I'd love to organise this whole thing, including setting up a proper web-site to display all the images, but I don't have time right now.

Also, it'd be nice if everyone included a brief description or story behind their photos to be passed on with the camera.
Bramish
   Bramish on Jun 06 '07 at 9:41am

rhythmdev9, I dont really know, I'm willing to help out as much as possible and I want this project to get off the ground, the purpose of this blog is to decide just how were going to go about it, what the rules are, that type of thing because theres alot of logistic to it.

I mean personally I dont want to be posting a vast amount of cameras to the states simply because of cost factors for me but I want to help in the organising stage.
midi-chlorinated
midi-chlorinated on Jun 06 '07 at 9:47am
Yeah, we need someone to be the organiser.
ecky_ducky
ecky_ducky on Jun 06 '07 at 9:47am
Yep, it'll be a matter of saying, okay, this camera, holding 30 photos will visit these x number of people, starting with x, who will buy the camera, and ending with y, who will upload the pictures to the flickr account or whatever.

Anyone interested, email your details to travellingcamera@gmail.com

I say we leave the expressions of interest open for a week, and then I will work with stubby, killyou and probably rhythm to organise routes.

I say a week deadline for each person, or possibly even shorter...three days? From receiving it to sending it on.

Okay bed.
stubby43
stubby43 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:49am
I'd prefer a week, for me I live in a small village and it'll take a couple of days to go to all the places I'd like to, to show my world.
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:51am
ecky's got it.... lets leave expression of interest open till say June 15th

then we can get together some how and work on setting all of it up...
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 06 '07 at 9:53am
if we give every one a week we could have it all done by the end of the year...
