Have you ever read someones post and started hearing it (for want of a better phrase) in an accent?

Antleredfiend

Because of her unsual use of grammar and punuctation I read it as a west country accent, think the wurzels.

On the other hand I imagine tesco to have a strong manchester accent even though hes from the south

(manchester accent), Olly moss a cambridge toff type, you know oh I say what ho old chap (sorry I really dont mean to be offensive).

As for americans, your either from alabama or new york in my mind.

Sorry.

And just for shits and giggles

The guy with the manchester accent, I talk a little bit like that only its alot tamer because its mixed in with so many other accents until it becomes a generic bland mess.

Everyone has a southern accent to me, unless I know they are foreign, at which point they automatically have a Manchester accent, regardless of their location.

When I come across any foreign word, (e.g. Igor, Manjeet) I pronounce it with a Spanish accent (I do speak Spanish, but it's not my first language). I'm also the sort of really obnoxious person who picks up a British lilt after watching an episode of Coronation Street. And when I talk really fast I enunciate very clearly and pick out every syllable. I just pick up accents easily. It's kind of stupid.

do any of you think that Canadians have accents?
stubby43
stubby43 on Jun 05 '07 at 8:23pm

I grew up with a really thick southern accent. Then I moved north and now I have a strange bit of a michigan accent. I've moved probably 100 times in my life so I guess I've picked up alot of accents on the way.
tabithakristen
tabithakristen on Jun 05 '07 at 8:31pm
When I said 100 times, I wasn't exaggerating much.

I have absolutely no accent.

Well... maybe a little midwestern-ness has slipped into my "a"s.

I used to talk like a Jersey girl, but my mother beat it out of me.

I hope I haven't been in Texas so long that I picked up an accent.
peater

I wonder if there's an internationally neutral accent.

Maybe it's like that lady's voice on my answering machine. But boy, that sounds awful.
Polyester Jones
Polyester Jones on Jun 05 '07 at 8:33pm
It depends where you're from -- the Newfie accent is quite pronounced and obvious (I think it's closer to Irish than to the rest of the country)...and we definitely pronounce some words differently. Like everyone I don't think I have an accent, but I can usually tell an American news broadcaster.

Then again you could just say that we all talk like this:

I did call somebody a hoser today.

I have no accent .. upstate NY has very little regional accent .. but my voice is oddly deep like you would never expect it from me

In the States, they say the most neutral accent is in Nebraska. They also put all the telemarketers there.

That or India.
