i guess it is impossible to answer who is the BEST game developer out there.
it is more of a personal preference, sorta like boxer or briefs...

so the revised question is...

who is YOUR favourite video game developer?

Atari
EA Games, EA Sports, Maxis, . ..
Epic Games
Bungie Software

Even though they've fallen off the wagon a bit by saturating and dilluting their marquee stars, no one can still touch Nintendo in terms of innovation and just plain pure fun!

Nintendo for everything

Square-Enix for Kingdom Hearts / Final Fantasy

Konami for DDR / Karaoke Revolution

agreed frickenawesome... i remember when everyone said nintendo was dead. just take the handheld consoles for eg. remember when sega brought out the game gear, and atari had the lynx. everyone was like the black and white gameboy won't be around for long. Now, 15 years on.. wheres sega game gear?? wheres the lynx?? won't be long before ppl will say psp what??

the thing with EA is, there is nearly always a Japanese counterpart making better sports games (like Tiger Woods compared to Fore!, or FIFA compared to Pro Evo) Plus I find they fall in the trap of having an imaginary stupid audience, making shit dumbed down with unneceressery shiney bits. I havent bought an EA game in ages though.

ive never played many of the alternative sports games dan.. but when i have they're never nearly as good. maybe it's because they're rarely fully licensed and it's just not the same when playing with cobi briant

well the Japanese versions seem to be made with more love, concentrating on the physics and the game engine rather than an exercise in sponsership and that.

eskimo- the lynx!!! i used to love playing my friend's state-of-the-art juiced up portable Super Nintendo-esque Lynx! Too bad it had like one good game...besides California Games. Man, i used to be able to digitally hacky sack all day rather than go outside! And you are also correct on the DS outliving the PSP..as usual, Nintendo went for innovation and quality over the high-end tech geek but crummy game factor of Sony...I just wish Nintendo woulda juiced up the Wii graphics for thenext round of games...even if it does get Nintendo to take back a respectable share of the videogames market, why does that mean they couldnt have put another 50 dollar graphics chip in that mother so the games won't look like Gamecube 1.5? Meanwhile, the Playstation 3 will be having damn-near phot-realistic visuals in a year or two. Nintendo always finds a way to enrage me, but i still ove them sooooooooo and all their japanese craziness and naivite...

i've still got 2 lynx consoles. (this game shop was giving them away if you bought 2 lynx games.. they even through in the carry pouch and a few accessories.) the only dissapointing thing with the ported version of california games on the lynx was that it only had 4 events. I loved the rollerskating girl on the original commodore 64 version.

Frinkinawesome - I think the Wii watered their graphics down so they could sell their system at an affordable price (not the 235730485703845 dollars the Playstation3 is going for).
I'll take a completely different and innovative gaming console over the same shit I've been playing for years...but with better graphics.
After playing Twilight Princess on the Wii, I could care less about the graphics.

vulcan- i completely agree with ya...i've always been a nintendo videogamer first and foremost (but if i game i love is on another system, i would never just shit on it to defend the mighty mariohouse...although i cherish the arguements i used to have with one friend in the back of history class FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR about sega or nintendo kicking more ass than the other one...ah good times. I think how much prettier Mortal Kombat II looked on the ol' Super system ended that debate..). But in a year or two, both other systems will have moved on to ridiculous graphical complexity, and the mighty Nintendo will not be able to keep up...and every nintendo system before this one really pushed the envelope in their own way in terms of graphics AS WELL AS innovation and amazing design and gameplay mechanics. I remember sitting in awe and running around for about an hour outside of the castle doing flips off the top of the trees the first time i fired up Mario 64. I dont own a Wii, yet, but it's sad i wont have that feeling graphics-wise, but im sure as i'm being amazed at just moving my hands and feigning a bow shot through a creatures jugular will amaze me enough to forget about all the graphical luster the other systems have. I'm more about substance than style, but dammit i love both in one package!

I dont think Wii is meant as a serious next gen console
vulcanhalfbreed
vulcanhalfbreed on Dec 28 '06 at 3:40am
I don't think it's not that Nintendo isn't ABLE to keep up. They're perfectly capable of putting out something that'll match the graphic quality or the PS3...I think they just didn't choose to focus on the graphics for the current system. And I think they're really smart for doing so. They want to keep their cost down, and with this new way of gaming they're opening up to two new groups of people who usually don't game...women and old people. I think that's fucking awesome.
Go Nintendo :)

I think what they've done is skipped a generation .. what they've done with the innovation of the controller etc has bypassed ps3 and 360. gaming is not all about the graphics, and the other companies seem to forget that sometimes.

Gameplay should always be the most important thing, the endless pursuit of better graphics is getting more and more irrelevent.

dangit folks, i just said i'd rather gameplay and innovation over graphics any day..nintendo is the only company ive stuck with and have every console (except the new one which will be remedied very soon)...but i think you are all lying to yourselves if you say graphics dont mean ANYTHING, they just make the whole experience that much more immersive and complete, and as much as i love innovation, i dig some very complimentary eye candy as well, which nintendo led the pack in as well. It's a pointless debate i guess, cause im sticking with nintendo no matter what becuase of their philosophy and style of gaming is the kind of games i have the most fun with. I'm gonna have to get some Wii numbers when i finally invest in it...i gotta play Super Monkey Ball, Smash Brothers and Mario Kart on that puppy!

wii won't have any gta content.

i like some cute games every now and then with some clever gameplay, but would it kill nintendo to get some harder and more realistic games. Mario has eaten his last shroom and bumped his head on the magical box for the last time...

the wii will not dominate this generation, because it's not a next gen console. whether you like it or not, ps3 and xbox will be ruling, with probably ps3 coming out on top. I know this because I have a time machine (and lots of common sense)

lovefanclub- people have been saying that since the dawn of needlessly violent games fulfilling childish bloodlusts (but damn i used to love wolfenstein 3d- doom - duke nukem!), but it has not been able to topple the Nintendo style of fun and innovation. Plus, they WILL have plenty of those games to fill some people's grisley urges- don't you remember the exclusive for a long long time Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube? Man, that game kept me up for days playing levels over and over again. They have a wonderful mix of both, and if Rockstar wants to be all immature about boycotting Nintendo just for past grudges and images of the two companies, let em stay away. I don't really dig those games that much (i had some fun with San Andreas for a few days at my friend's house, and i had my fill), but if those games can be proted to the Wii with some really unique additions to its gamelplay via the controllers and will have more people supporting my soon-to-be-favorite current system, so be it then.

ha I want one just for MGS4, so yeah I think that will be a big factor. Plus it's Japanese, and they kind of dictate how things turn out. I wonder how well the xbox360 is going down over there.

i agree with you dan, but to say, like lev did, that maria has eaten his last shroom etc, is very naive indeed. as i said earlier ppl were saying nintendo was dead long ago. back when sega was on top. now where is sega? Nintendo has been around through every generation of console. they will outlast sony, and microsoft. In 20 years time nintendo will still be around, I cannot say that with any certainty about sony and microsoft.
