If these people were drawing for the sake of drawing, it would be one thing. This is drawing for the sake of sales, and I see no reason people shouldn't have opinions on how to make the work better and/or why they wouldn't buy it as-is. It's true some people will just say something nasty and not back it up, but for the rest I think some people are just being too sensitive.

most of those types can't get laid. no people skills. :-D

It's one thing if someone takes inspiration from something, but to actually copy something and put it up here as their own, either for their own gain or just because they "wanted the shirt" and didn't feel like just buying a copy somewhere else is just asking for it. I agree that people should be as nice as they can be about things, but there are some people who really just go against what we all love so much about Threadless.

uh... yeah it matters. If something is unoriginal and not up to par as far as good design is concerned, I doubt I would think it looks cool.

It's the people who feel there the elitists who ruin sites like this (and myspace, SG, several others) while there are honest members and people who run the sites with the best interests at heart.

Wow... everyone is laying in pretty hard. I kinda feel compelled to make a real response now.



No matter where you go some people will ruin it for the majority. It's why we can't have nice things. I do agree that some of the critiques come down pretty heavy but really a designer should become sort of detached from such things. Getting upset over every negative comment and not learning how to disregard the non-constructive rips is as essential to progress as knowing what advice to take and how to apply it without betraying your own vision.



Originality is arguable. Almost nothing is truly original. Nothing really has ever been. But the line gets more and more faded every day. If a persons idea isn't original they may still have a different perspective. If the technical ability lacks they can improve. The idea is everything though. If the idea is flat no design work will breath dimension into it. But on the other side a great idea can be killed by bad design.



The "elitists" who cut people down and treat places like popularity contests exist in every arena. You can't escape them. You just have to hold the line and keep moving. Any vision that can't withstand some nasty comments isn't one worth having.



I do sympathize with your frustration completely. But you must get past it. Cause you can't fix it.
