Man, you'll dig this story.

So, everyone knows what a sucker I am for babies, especially my nieces. After being able to see them regularly for years (Cecilia is 4, Juliette is almost 2--naturally I've seen her less), now that I'm in California my niece-access has greatly diminished. It makes me sad.

I think my brother and my sister-in-law picked up on this, and on New Year's Day they asked me to babysit Juliette (not Cecilia, for some reason; I think they were taking her to buy stuff for Julie, maybe). So I said yes. She's nearing the terrible twos and has become a bit of a butt, but we got along swimmingly for about an hour. Then she got tired of me and insisted on being right on my mom's leg when she--my mom--was baking a pie. Then, Julie wouldn't let me take her away and out of the kitchen, where she was being a bit of a nuisance. But my mom adores the kids, so she didn't mind too much. The thing is, Julie started to sort of ignore me/shove me away. And being a sensy as I am, I got my feelings hurt.

Later, her parents showed up and she was more outgoing and collected, and would play with me a bit. But she was still sorta shy/reserved/etc. with me.

But when we were heading out to my brother's car to see them all off and the kids were being strapped in, my brother had Julie in his arms on the other side of the car, and she just started to randomly sing (along to the Barney song tune):

I love Chris
He loves me
We're a happy family.

Which made me feel all special and butterfly-y and gay and shit inside.

and also, i love how, out of context, the words "niece-access" sounds so pedo creepy, but in context, it's adorable. i'm glad you like kids a lot. that makes me happy, and bodes well for our future love children

less than two months for me - february 19th is the date we were told as the due date, but I think it's going to be sooner.
I'll be real glad when we're done with being pregnant and start being parents.

aw man, push it back another 10 days and make 'em a leap year baby! that'd be soooooo cool
