There were so many better designs for this contest! I was pysched to see what shirt was printed and was planning on getting it, but I probably won't get this one. I mean, it's cool and well done, but other shirts got higher ratings. Honestly, why was this one picked? Maybe I just don't understand what goes into the decision.

It was picked because it is awesome. I just might buy two of them.

I'm not bashing it. there were just a lot of others I liked better and got higher average ratings too, so I just asked a simple question

I agree.

Basically, I really, really don't like this design. I'm totally disappointed, especially after seeing slews of other, really good designs. Not to say this isn't a good design or anything, just not indicative of the Science of Sleep, which, if I'm not mistaken, was the theme of the contest.

I actually think this shirt is pretty good...surrealistic and cartoon-y at the same time. It captures that weird dream state pretty good. I haven't looked at all the other "Sleep" designs, though, so I can't compare.

you all need to remember that someone associated w/ the movie helped to pick this out. so, when you say it doesn't go well w/ the movie, maybe you are the one misinterpreting.

Re: A ship and/or a bed sailing on the ocean to represent dreams, sleep, etc... not too cliche. I'll be sure to notify the creators of Little Nemo.

Everyone has different opinions, different tastes. Not everyone is going to like the same thing, hence the reason for a site like this.

I'm organizing the Herky parade for this weekend. Congrats, dude!

I know that his style doesn't speak to everyone, but I love all the details he puts into them. This couldn't happen to a nicer guy. :)

I think it's awesome. My favorite from Herky, I'm glad it was printed. There were others that were really good, too, just different styles, not everyone will or has to agree.

I'm also very grateful to the appreciative members of the blog community (lemonalle, chelly, squintygirl, phones, El dictator, ect.) and many others for your input, advice and comments-the true life blood of threadless itself.

guys, he's not hating on it, he just asked a simple question: why did this one win the Love's Threadless contest?

The answer is that the panel of judges believed that it best fit the criteria for the winning design that they had in mind. having a better score doesnt necessarily mean that it fits the theme well. they just get a better chance at being printed on its own
Shep
Shep on Dec 18 '06 at 2:59pm
I half agree. I like this shirt, but I also like the Captain's Dream a lot. Of course, I liked The Night The Townsfolk Didn't Get Any Sleep best for this contest.

The thing I don't get is why even have scores if you're just going to let some guy who doesn't know the way the site works come on and arbitrarily choose the winner. Captain's Dream should have won this contest.

P.S. - I like the people who come into immee's blog and tell him to shut up. Where should he voice his opinion? Hack the site and post it all over the front page?

hey, peeps, just because one of the other good designs didn't win the contest doesn't mean they won't get printed... now we play the waiting game.

Good job on the whole beating out others who deserved it more.

What is the point of voting if it doesn't matter? Threadless is losing any and all credibility in my eyes. This happens EVERY singe time there is a contest, not to mention every month winners are chosen.

Why not just submit our designs... and let the admin do all the judging. After all, that is what is going on here.

-dissappointed.
Exigent
Exigent on Dec 18 '06 at 3:31pm
For the record, though I would not buy the shirt, it was VERY well executed. Ultimately, you won the judges vote and won the thing.

Congrats.

Thanks to everybody who liked my design for this, but you have to give credit where credit is due and I think Herky deserves this, not because he's never been printed before, but because it's just a great design that fits the style of the movie.

I'm proud of my design and am so glad that some of you liked it, but stylistically it misses the mark for this movie. It completely leaves out the humour and wackiness of the movie. Herky deserves it hands down.
Petanca
Petanca on Dec 18 '06 at 3:43pm
Sometimes Threadless seems to know better than the voters waht is going to work well as a shirt, they have a lot of experience in this I think that is why average score isn't that important, although it is still important.
Cbuchholz: wow, tha twas a generous and nice comment, you seem to be not only an awesome designer but also a great guy!

I wasn't a big fan of it either. Not a bad shirt, certainly, but not something I'd wear or buy. It does make me wonder why the judges chose it (not in a bad way, just in a "why did the judges choose this?" way).
FatOprah
FatOprah on Dec 18 '06 at 4:00pm
I think its really well illustrated and I dig the colors. Not my style though.

FYI, Threadless has never abided by scores alone. That's just not quite how it works

wullagaru

basically what it boils down to is that threadless uses teh scores to give a general idea of what might or might sell. then they make the decisions .. so score is somewhat important but not teh be all and end all

as for the loves again teh scores arent as important as what teh sponsors of teh contest want for teh shirt. and since they are teh ones picking they really are teh final voice in what fits teh theme best. teh scores in these loves contests do however point out what shirts would and in quite a few cases will do well if they were to be printed despite not being chosen by teh contest judges.

and also congrats to herky I love a lot of your work and although its not always my bag, the talent in it is impossible not to see
