Chinese Peaches - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

i just don't understand the point of this shirt. is it comparing chinese women to peaches? naked, fat chinese women to be exact. i find it very offensive, slightly sexist, and quite racist.

What do you have against plump little pretty Chinese peach faeries?

Your world must be sadly devoid of charm and magic.

If you check out the photo gallery for this shirt, you'll see plenty of unoffended people of all sizes, genders and ethnicities (yes, even Chinese!) wearing this shirt. They all seem pretty happy about it.

Are we through? :D

im interested in what exactly you find offensive. Just because it is an image depicting naked women doesnt make it racist or sexist. Comparing chinese women to peaches? wtf?

if anything, the stereotype is that chinese women are thin...your logic doesnt make sense.
koukla72
koukla72 on Dec 04 '06 at 8:15pm
Um, no...quite the opposite. I think it's suggesting they're pretty and luscious, like the peaches themselves, regardless of their weight. Kind of celebratory, in a way.

Regarding their race, peach blossoms or fruits hanging on a branch are a classic theme in asian art (along with cherry blossoms/fruit), and as the drawing style is asian in general, it just seems to fit that the women would be asian too. I think it could be equally effective if they weren't though.

And as far as the nudity is concerned, I think you need to loosen up a little. There's nothing inherently "dirty" about nudity in art in general, and about this design in particular.

FYI... in the Tang Dynasty, plump/fat women were considered attractive, and like bound feet, only nobility were allowed to subscribe to that beauty.

I don't think it is racist/sexist/offensive at all. In fact, I think the design is rather cute. It's the color I don't like. Poor me, resentful of the color pink...

I cannot wait until someone designs a shirt with partial nudity involving a man (who knows, someone may already have.) It'll never get printed though.

And then I cannot wait to see the comments from the guys, "There's no way I'm wearing a naked dude on my chest!"

I don't see the point... but it really isn't offensive when people put an emo on a shirt, or if they put an american person on a piece of cheese and called it american cheese.

during the period which the artistic representation, which the shirt design is trying to reflect, was popular, the plump female figure was seen as beautiful and peaches were a Godly delicacy. Not really racist at all, just uninformed blog writing.
