Power Struggle - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Power-Struggle-Colours-V3

Power-Struggle-Shirt

----------------------------

So.... what do you think?

Power-Struggle-Colours-V2

---------------------

Colouring now. I might try it with more halftones, and possibly distress the whole image at the end, though that might make the image a little too busy.

Any feedback?

Colouring - Stage 1

Power-Struggle-Colours-V1

----------------------

I've cleaned up the drawing and I'm thinking there's not much to be gained by vectorising it - livetrace really messes it up, and I can colour it more easily in Photoshop.

So for now, this is what it looks like. How does it look?

B&W Linework

Power-Struggle-B&W

----------------------------

Just scanned this in from my sketch book. Vectoring it would take a long time - mainly cos I'm SLOW - so I might do it in Photoshop, which isn't ideal.

But first of all, I'd like to know if I should bother! All opinions, suggestions and comments gratefully received :)

until i saw the chair thought bubble, i didnt think it was that good of a concept, but i think it's totally worth it. the robot butler seems somewhat anachronistic, so maybe make the guy in futuristic clothes to give it more internal cohesiveness?

Haha! That's great! DO IT!!!

make it obvious that it is the chair's thoughts and not just those of the man, and then I say run with. (maybe 50's housewife rather than robot?)

what krimson said, but I like the robo maid

Thanks guys!

Biobot: I was in fact thinking of making it look even more old-fashioned, with a floral pattern on the chair. You could be right though... maybe I should make this futuristic - but then I'd need to make the chair all modern and iPod like.

Krimson: I'll put the second thought bubble a little lower - I'd run out of space in my sketchbook! - so that should help a bit. And I'm not going to risk the wrath of feminists by making a woman do that!

What if instead of making the bubble lower you move it to the left?
againstbound
   againstbound on Feb 05 '09 at 12:49am
And instead of vectorizing you could always livetrace (that's what us vector noobs do9, besides it already looks clean, so the livetrace would just tighten up things.

I'll definitely move the bubble lower, but will have to experiment for the best place.

I thought of livetracing, but this could make the colouring very difficult - the shapes all come out funny, and selecting the right bits would be a total nightmare.

Man the vectoring is soooo tedious.

amazing man! I was like Bio-Bot going, "eh" at the concept until i scrolled down and saw the chair bubble and that eh turned to AHHHHHHHmazing! Really good stuff, vector it up!

   FRICKINAWESOME on Feb 05 '09 at 4:33am
also, i'd have a spilled cup of tea and/or the broken pot in the bubble of the chair winning all.

man - you can put this in a vector in 5 minutes

Thanks Evan - I've added the spilt cup!

Badbasilisk - that's cos you're much better at vectorising than me!

This is awesome. :) There's a plugin called silhouette for Illustrator that does a bit of a better job than livetrace when it comes to black and white lineart like that.

Check it out at Silhouette

Ta da!

Well, you have to play around with the settings to get what you want. And are you having different outline areas colored different or something? I'm not sure I ubderstand how it would be difficult.

great idea. especially if you do it in an old-timey cartoon instruction feel. can't wait!

Baka - I downloaded that, but when I use it, it turns everything into great big black blobs, and I can't figure out how to change the settings.

Hector: What settings do you use? Cos when I livetrace, it turns everything wavy, I lose a lot of the details, and worst of all, everything is converted to a fill, so for example, every single segment in the robot's arms is an individual fill, every part of the chair is a separate fill, and so on. To colour the chair I gotta select like, 5 different bits. I guess I'm just not that familiar with livetrace!

And thanks David - it's the look I've got in mind as well, but I'm not sure I know how to pull it off!

You just don't have very good luck with illustrator it seems. I used Silhouette on one of my more detailed submissions, and it turned out really well! :( Sucks it doesn't work for you.

Tutorial

This is a great guide for using the plug-in if you feel like playing with it anymore. This guy's a vector master.

   Krakaboom on Feb 05 '09 at 6:56pm
Heh - I'm really not used to livetracing anything at all! After going through that tutorial Silhouette seems to work better now, but it still only gives me black outlines, with no fill - which is no good for me.

Anyway, I'm doing OK with Photoshop, I think. Just gotta work on the colour scheme. Roght now everything's quite muted - any opinions?

the chair totally makes it. i can't wait to 5$ this.

i'm not sure why the robot is still wearing his apron in his fantasy. seems like the human should be wearing it. but aside from that, i love it!

Love the colors you used. :) Even if you couldn't get the vector stuff to work, it still looks super awesome in Photoshop. Can't wait to see this on a tee template!

Very funny, I do think that the robot's face looks a little weird in the under the chair part. I think the neck ring kinda makes him to seem to be smiling
