I want to get a lomo camera. I'm either going to get the Holga Color Flash, or the Fisheye 2. I'm leaning more towards the Fisheye 2...but i might just get a regular Holga, and get a fisheye lens, and then some color filters for the Holga. Comments? Suggestions?

What lomo cameras do you own?

is it bad that I think lomography is a way to take blurry pictures and make it cool?

can't you take blurry pictures....with a normal camera?
ambientcity
ambientcity on Jan 14 '07 at 11:57am
not blurry pictures my friend,

but pictures with random color bleeds in random places. great lighting, view...pretty much anything a reg camera can't really do on its own

I want a regular ol' holga.. guess I'll be waiting on that, though, since I just bought a new digital camera.

Sorry, but those are lame-ography. Learn about composition and focus and then get the cool tools.

they're definately not lame cameras. and it's not like we're talking wedding photography here. real photographers learn to embrace all sorts of photo styles

Stevethegreat

ohhhh

you want a camera that doesn't focus AND leaks light.

I see.
margolove
margolove on Jan 14 '07 at 10:38pm
but steve! It's art! Even though you have absolutely no influence on how the light gets leaked onto it!

I have a holga, and I like it. Don't buy from lomography dot com though because they have maad markups!
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Jan 14 '07 at 11:03pm
I also kind of resent the idea that lofi photography is for people who can't do traditional photography. A lot, actually.

What do you mean mad mark ups?

Someones getting me the Fisheye Holga Set from lomography.com
canadianbeaver
canadianbeaver on Jan 15 '07 at 7:38pm
Don't get me wrong. I was knocking the cameras or the the art. I was saying the phots on the site, from a photography point of view, looked lame. The composition of the shots looked very amateur and there has to be some craftmanship to the photography. A $5 disposable camera in the hands of a great photographer will still produce great shots.
canadianbeaver
canadianbeaver on Jan 15 '07 at 7:38pm
ooops.. I was NOT knocking...
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Jan 15 '07 at 7:57pm
Oh I meant that the cameras cost a lot more than they should, especially the holga. I got mine for 20$ to their 70.

Those are from my first roll on my holga. FYI.

where'd you get it? I want a cheap one!
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Jan 15 '07 at 8:03pm
Ebay, gurrrl.
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Jan 15 '07 at 8:04pm
Well I mean, I got mine from a store but you should try ebay first because I'm sure you can get one for like 5 dollars. I just got a brownie for 2 dollars and it works fine.
margolove
margolove on Jan 15 '07 at 8:06pm
nice! Yeah, I'll definitely check it out.. I think old cameras like that are pretty cool, but not if they cost an arm and a leg.
Lucretia Mott
Lucretia Mott on Jan 15 '07 at 8:11pm
Yeah I got mine for 2 dollars, and then 5 shipping. The real issue is getting film. Most old cameras use 127 which is discontinued except for in Canada and like, Kurdistan. The trick is that 120 and 127 are secretly the same, except you have to reroll the 120 in 127 spools. Shh don't tell!

i got my sampler (brand new) for like $30 on amazon with free shipping. you should try there...

lomos are toys, but you can get similar effects with a slight effort in Photoshop.

check out the tutorials on the interweb
ambientcity
ambientcity on Jan 19 '07 at 4:26pm
i wouldn't call them toys

some people actually do Lomography Art Shows nationwide, it's pretty hard to get that far with a toy
J-Ray
J-Ray on Jan 19 '07 at 4:29pm
i'm not discrediting them by saying they're toys... i like the look of lomo. But I wouldn't want to buy one to get one novel effect that I could simulate using software.
ambientcity
ambientcity on Jan 19 '07 at 4:30pm
ah, i see your point.

but i'd rather have it look weird naturally, than to make it look like that with a software...but that's just me

ambient: yeah, if you're into it, go for it!

Do you have to get the film developed or does it print out right away? or are there digital lomos?
Noobits
Noobits on Jan 19 '07 at 7:25pm
whats the diff between Holga and lomo? Is it a type of lomo or a whole new brand that takes lomo style photos?
lincolnish
lincolnish on Jan 19 '07 at 8:14pm
I want a lomo camera bad but I can't afford the stuff on the lomography international site. I'm saving up for a 360.
ambientcity
ambientcity on Jan 20 '07 at 1:48pm
Noobits, Lomography is the brand that carries Holga cameras, and tons of other amazing cameras!

J-ray, i haven't seen any digital Lomo's, but i'm sure they have some. They also have cameras in which the film comes out after you take the picture. Some of the cameras are 35mm film, which is regular film+regular processing. And finally, some cameras use different film that requires proffessional lab processing, like the Horizon Kompakt camera.

lincolnnish: Ebay or Amazon!
