My friends cat gives you two pats on the face with no claws, then one with the claws out. That usually does the trick.

Haha Debs, when we house/cat sat for my boss a couple of months ago, her cat would do exactly that. I'd get up and feed her, then she'd do it again. THen all throughout the day, Amelie would get the love and attention, whilst I was the one being woken up and feeding the fucking thing!
