This shirt really makes me uncomfortable in the face of the political climate. They truth is that the US is making people talk against their will using instruments that are probably not unlike these. Our government is justifying this with double-speak and our legal system is shutting its eyes and throwing up its hands. To make a pop statement on shirt out of something so serious and horrendous makes me sad and disquieted.

82% of people who were tortured on 24 deserved it.

i think this t-shirt is hilarious. It goes along with ever horror flick ever made. You can't take a shirt like this so serious. it's a t-shirt.

I think there's a bunch of shirts on this site making light of sad subjects (torture, suicide, etc.) This shirt isn't really graphic, considering Flowers in The Attic actually shows the girl shooting herself in the head (and I'm not upset about that shirt either.)
Honestly, if you think this shirt isn't appropriate, don't buy it. If though, you want to talk about the U.S. and torture then do it. This shirt (as those that make light of sad subjects) is meant to spark discussion.
Simple as that.

I saw a show the other day, and a sociology teacher asked his class, while showing them pictures of abu ghraib, 'how many of you don't think you would ever do something like this to another human being?' the majority of the class raise their hand, then he says 'out of you with your hands up, about two of you are right.' I'm not too sure how accurate of theory/statement that is since it was a television show after all, but still something to think about.

i think people just need to stop looking for things to get offended at. Guess what...most of these things are surgical/medical tools (not the featheror boxcutter? of course). As a pre-med student who works in a hospital...this shirt has an extremely humorous VOCATIONAL bent to it. i can't wait to receive it in the mail.

i like the comments pointing out numerous other "violent" Threadless designs like Flowers in the Attic (another tee i have purchased). This site is GEARED at producing tee shirts targeting people with diverse interests...many of which include a DARK SENSE OF HUMOR. Its OK, doesn't mean the clientele want to torture anybody, and finally, get over it!

wow! i haven't responded to this cause i've just checked out of threadless for some time. Here it goes:

a) my face is inappropriate! ha! yes! more!
b) i appreciate the fact that these tools have more than one use, but to me what's disturbing is the total packaging of the t-shit ie "ways of making you talk" and the guy blindfolded and with his hands tied behind his back.
c) hogboy? yes. you have a good point that i will wear the flowers in the attic tee, even though that may seem hypocritical. I guess what disturbs me is not the inherent violence of the design - violence is everywhere, it's a part of our lives - but the glib reference to a political reality that we are desensitized to. Like someone else said, it's this desensitization and general ignorance that i'm objecting to. Perhaps this isn't the best forum for that kind of debate.
d) yes, other countries use torture as well. but i'd like to hold America to a higher standard.
e) I'd like to assert that I don't judge anyone for wearing this shirt and I support threadless in printing it because I believe in the power of and right to free speech. I just think we should all think a little about what makes this "dark" humor.

Dexter's a pretty good show. And I saw this shirt on a pretty girl riding the 38 bus in San Francisco today.
