Anyone know any good Rap/hip-hop albums that don't revolve around "bitches", "hoes", "Bling", "Money" or "being a hard-core thug that'll blast you with a gat 'cause yo a weak ass bitch for being on mah turf"?

Good rap music is like good gang rape: it doesn't exist. (But each to his own, as they say.)

Lupe Fiasco. He is T-total, positive messages etc. Jay-Z says he's a genius. So there.

His new album is out this month I think. May already be out - called 'The Cool'

I forgot about Lupe. He's decent, but his voice and rap style grates on me after a while. jurassic 5 is good, laid-back creatvie stuff.

And even the Black Eyed Peas first and second albums are real quality- before they cashed in their rapping credentials, slummed the pop depths for Fergie and decided to sell their souls to white girls in malls who wish to feel "freaky".

I feel the exact same way about him, Billy Corgan, the Gallaghers. They are such pompous a-holes, but their stuff is so good, I can't help but give them a free pass b/c unlike 99.5 of the current rap stars, their talents match or exceed their egos.
squatterjohn
squatterjohn on Jan 22 '08 at 3:27am
I don't like rap, but I like Gorillaz and Gnarls Barkley. I don't know if they count as rap, but they might be something a rap fan would meet me halfway on. They're both Danger Mouse projects I believe and FA mentioned him before.

KBS- I'm digging the schtuff you likes.

Aesop Rock's song "Lucy" is one of the best story songs of the past decade.
FRICKINAWESOME
   FRICKINAWESOME on Jan 22 '08 at 3:29am
SquatterJ, both of those acts kinda bridge the gap between a lot of good kinds of musical styles and make an intoxicating sonic brewsky with the tiny bits here and there, so it would be safe to call them rap. Gorillaz's albums are both great, but as an album, Demon Days is such a cohesive well-done piece of art whereas the first Gorillaz functions as a set of fun art-pop.

I also kinda like that one song by Fort Minor, but I don't think Mike Shinoda is counted as real rap.

All about me

What is there to say about me? Well, I'm a bit odd (but who isn't?). I'm practically never serious, hell even I can't tell if I'm joking when I'm serious.

I like movies done by Quinton Tarintino and Kevin Smith. I like music. I'm more of a rocker than anything else. I tolerate some rap, but none of that bitches and bling shit, the Beastie Boys are fucking awesome though. I really like old school punk better than the punk rock of today. Psychadelic rock is pretty friggin' sweet too. The rest of the music in my collection is rock, and a Best of Bob Marley and the Wailers album, and a best of album of WAR.

I like playing bass guitar and regular guitar, and I'm learnig how to play the piano at the moment so I got that going for me, yay. That's about it right now.
