I dont understand the scoring on this site...really decent designs are getting low scores even though they have really good comments.... but I can guess whats happening...it seeems some people are scoring decent designs really low..even tho they are saying how much they love it..in order to give false hope and in the end knock any decent "competition" towards their own designs out the water....its freakin cheeky ..we are all designers and we should all be honest with our comments..I think the only way to eradicate this kind of scoring vs voting is to have threadless publish what score you gave the design so the designer can see it..that way you can't hide your tactics behind a friendly score!I've seen some amazing designs fail to reach the print process and it just doesnt add up when you take the comments into consideration...shame on anyone who has done this...it doesnt do any justice to peoples hard work!

ok.. consider this. you get say 60 comments saying I LOVE THAT $5. it doesnt mean those people are lying, take into consideration that the average submission gets voted on 2000 times.. so you dont know what the other 1,940 people are voting..

What she said. The people who comment on the design are usually the people who like it - so they're proabably being completely honest - it's the other 1500 people who don't like it and don't comment that bring it down. I wouldn't want to know what eveyone scored my designs.

this is definitely a very good point and goes well towards explaining the issue..thank you very much...I dont mean to say everyone who says they love it are lyers..i'm sure the majority of people are being honest... but on some designs it doesnt seem to make sense and the confusion has been expressed by others as well..I would love to see the individual scores as a tally up of all the 1's, 2's, 3's etc...this would help me considerably in undersatnding the overall score...it would also give the designer the opetion to ask why a score was given ..in order to gain further in sight into why a certain score was given! Many thanks for your reply though..I think you answer satisfies the problem perfectly well!

Interesting idea about posting our scores.

I don't know exactly how Threadless would work that out though.

Maybe everyone who comments on a design also has their score

posted next to their avatar?

Threadless probably doesn't give that much weight to the

scores compared to all the "I'd buy it" votes a design gets.

Which means we probably shouldn't take a design's score

all that seriously.

I'd like Threadless to post the percentage of the votes that

included a "I'd buy that".

you spelled farce wrong.

Everything that needed to be said has been said, I read your post on the Idle Hands sub of Ste7en, I agree there should be more "voter responsibility" but the anonymity is what attracts people here, so they can be voting jerks!

In the end though, this is why there is a "Panel of judges"...kinda sorts everything out, and based on choices here I think threadless judges have a pretty good track record

Yeah, it's obvious that the I'd Buy It part of the voting wheighs out the actual score, but the higher the better too.

i'm crap at spelling.... thanks Maltzmania! And i think you have a very good point about the annonymity! I'm an idealist and would love to think a good design would get a score it deserves..but Helo has a good point too...if the design is "picked" by the judges on mainly the "i'd buy it" votes then I too would like to see how many "id buy it" my design got..it would definitely help ease the stress of thinking all your hard work was worth such a low score!

Yeh, just to add to all of this, I'd hope people don't get discouraged by their scores and start pandering to the anonymous voters because then we'd end up with 1,000 panda hugging penguin shirts....which is why the Revolution contest is awesome!

I've decided that whatever design wins the Revo contest I'm gonna buy

...and it would give the deisgner a clearer picture of how many potential customers their design has attracted!

Don't forget, the score only matters so much. The ultimate decision is up to threadless. So it doesn't mean a design automatically gets printed if it gets a certain score or anything.

definitely dont pander to anyone! thats why seeing some kind of statistic chart of your t.shirt would be so helpful..it would give you a much clearer picture of your impact on the voters and maintain your confidence with your own style! In essence , the "i'd buy it" button negates the need to score at all...with Slogans its straight forward...buy it or dont..your choice...why not the same for shirts..we might as well get straight to the point no? then we'd all know what our potential is!

would it be too much to ask threadless to publish their comment/vote on your design? That would be even more beneficial considering in the end they are the ones who ultimately understand the market, potential and profitability of a certain design!

It probably would be too much to ask.

They go through a LOT of designs every work day

and to comment on every one is a huge task.
