I've been a long-time threadless fan but when it comes to submitting designs I'm a completel newb... so maybe some of you can help me out on this one?

Why was my design up for scoring for only a couple days, and then it just says "finished early"? Is there a target score I must hit or...?

DaniellesGarden
   DaniellesGarden on Jul 16 '08 at 12:15pm
kind of. if it doesnt score well enough or have enough I'd buy it's clicked within the first 24 hrs. it finishes early.

skeev on Jul 16 '08 at 12:16pm
They used to have the "why did this finish ear;y" link to the explanation on the page, I guess they stopped.

It has to average a certain score in the first 24 hours to continue, I don't remember the specifics.

It wasn't a couple of days, just 1. If your design doesn't get enough positive votes and $s within the first 24 hours it gets dropped out of the competition. Better luck next time.

Yeah, me too, I even I didn't get to vote on it because I wasn't around to check my email or tell my friends about it. It's up to chance who will be around to vote on it for that first 24hours. Not everyone interested. Seems wrong.

Yeah, just happened to my design. FUCKING BULL SHIT. There are so many good ideas and so many good designs that get beat out by stupid shit.. Threadless really should start accepting more of the designs that are submitted

Get over it you guys. Nobody wants to wade through a bunch of crap that has no shot in hell of ever seeing a silkscreen....
if it gets dropped early just deal with it.

Flying Fish has the right attitude, back to the drawing board! :)

Now that I look...I stand corrected...iaou is right. If only she had more than 24 hours to have her design voted on, it obviously would have printed. I mean, if only she would have got her 15 friends to vote on it (most of which wouldn't cause they are too lazy to sign up for an account), this masterpiece would have obviously smashed the competition!

I take it all back now. I've been proven wrong.

That's not what this is about. They accept hundreds! Too many to vote on. And I'm fine with that, I like that they let things get voted on by the voters, but if the voters don't like it, then dropping the design early. It removes some of the stuff and makes voting less daunting. Just be thankful your designs had a chance to be judged by the community rather than being rejected outright.

@squatterjohn: Maybe some sort of weekly cap / submission queuing system is in order?
squatterjohn
squatterjohn on May 07 '09 at 11:33am
But things are already queued for nine days. they need to let Rachel hire an assistant.
Rachel Ray Gun
Rachel Ray Gun on May 07 '09 at 11:43am
I appreciate the thought, but hiring an assistant wouldn't lessen the wait time (which currently is about 5 days.) Wait time depends on number of submissions received, not how many people are going through the submissions.

We do decline a lot of submissions, but we want to give everyone a fair shot if they follow the submission guidelines, especially if it's their first time submitting. Nobody's going to learn and improve if their work doesn't get feedback.

My design was up for one day and only today I found some time to email around.. Just sent 150 emails and a friend of mine mailed me straight back telling me it's already been kicked off!
I'd say : Just put designs with the least score on the end of the list.. don't kick it off! Some people might actually have got work to do and won't be able to mail around the first second the design is up for voting!

This 24 hour-rule is lame!!! (i.m.h.o.)
squatterjohn
squatterjohn on Jul 22 '09 at 6:43am
They don't go on a list, otherwise everything at the front would get voted on and people would give up before reaching the end. Votes are directed at random so eveything gets equal exposure. It really won't help your design to have it at the bottom of a list that only the most dedicated are willing to get to. Just design something better and try again.

I guess the people that voted didn't think its worth the money.... But still all it matters is the looks....almost everyone is against the good design to succeed....why the hell are we spending our effort doing it when many fail?? I guess the ones that continue forever will get a chance... I just hope I would never give up....

My first three submissions just ended below 2, which is totally fine because it just makes me want to make more polished designs and think of better presentation. It was a bit disheartening to see that, but I suppose it's pretty necessary.

I mean if you're shooting for like $2k, it should have required at least a little effort, right?

I love that everyone is complaining that their friends didn't get a chance to vote on it. The fact is, a bunch of people who aren't going to automatically give it a $5 did get a chance to vote on it, voted honestly, and your design didn't make the grade. That's life.

Hey! I was mailing Threadless about some stuff, and I noticed that their contact page actually has an explanation.

http://www.threadless.com/contact

Q) Why was my design taken out of the running?
A) Every design is given at least 24 hours and 100 scores. If, after that time, the design receives a score in the bottom 30 percentile, it will be prematurely removed from the running.

So now you know!

Yeah, my 2nd design finished early too.but it's all rights. People do this, not threadless.so i need to do it better.
BTW i found someone that praise on my design but i see avg score that he gives in his profile is 0.bla bla(i forget) but its prove that lot of intentional zero scorer in threadless. I hope it getting solved by threadless.

Haha. Mine just finished early as well. That's okay, though... whatever.

I always wonder if it's paranoia or just intuition, but I'm curious to see how many people have either tons of accounts or friend circles that go around just trying to knock out the competition by voting 0. Or, people who are black and white, and a design either gets a 5 or a 0!

Regardless, what happens happens. Threadless said no resubmissions, so is it generally a mistake to submit without first submitting for critique?

The bottom 30th of actual scores (almost a third of the running designs get dropped), or the bottom 30th of possible scores (anything below 1.5)?

I've always known this clause as the "1.5 rule," so I'm guessing the latter, but now I'm curious as to what percentage of submissions actually drop early.
