I just got an email from Customer Service, replying to my inquiry as to why girls don't have an 2XL size.

I KNOW that it's not there, I want to know why.

My EMAIL: Oct 24, 2006 01:32:01 pm
I'm not sure where I should put this, but I'd like to know Threadless doesn't
have a 2XL girl's size. Personally, I can fit into an XL, but its snug. I like tohave a little breathing room in my shrits. But I also like to show that I am a
girl and that I have a figure. You offer the 2XL size for men, but not for
women. Fine, I'd order a guys large, but somtimes the colors are different.
Would it be so difficult to produce one extra size for girls?

Hello Melissa!

Sorry, we only carry S-2XL for the Guys tee and S-XL for the Girly tees. We haven't had much of a demand to carry other sizes than what we offer. If that changes in the future, we'll definitely add additional sizes. Sign up for the
Threadless newsletter and be notified if and when that happens.

Have a wonderful day!

Brianne
Threadless Customer Service
Thank you for shopping at Threadless.com!

___

I find it interesting that they answered my question as to why they aren't produced with an 'well, no one asked for them.'

Well, now I AM asking for them.

Aren't there any other girls out there who'd like to have a 2XL girly tee? I can wear an XL, but it is, as I said, snug. But I still want to show I have a waist. I want a little room. I want girly colors. Is that so hard? Or maybe Threadless just doesn't think girls should be any larger than XL. Maybe Threadless doesn't thing that their consumer net should extend to girls that want to wear or need a shirt that is larger than XL...

EDITED @ 8:20 October 25, 2006

Some people thought that I had been rude in a comment posted below. If this is true, I am sorry. I was frustrated with the response from Threadless' customer service because I felt the answer to my question to be less than spectacular.

This is really beside the point. I really just want to refocus on the fact that I just think that this product should be available in a larger size for girls. If you support that, please say so. I just want to bring it to the company's attention so that it can become a reality.

blame AA, they're the ones that believe a 2XL girl is the size of a L guy... and that's ridiculous

I responded to your email before. Some people do need the 2XL and the little bit of difference. You are one of them and we totally appreciate your request, but there really isn't enough people requesting the 2XL. A blog with requests might not make a difference either. If we starting selling more girly XLs and had tons of requests for 2XL, then we would probably add it on as another size. The XL is usually the last size sold out of the girly sizes and we print less of the XL than we do of the S, M, and L. We totally appreciate your request and it may be something we consider in the future, but we are just not at the point right now. If you have any other questions or want to discuss more, feel free to email us at service@threadless.com.

It's a difficult one, as since the girly xls don't fit some girls, they have to buy guys shirts. This means they are not buying the biggest girls size, and so not boosting the sales (if this makes sense). I think threadless are probably right though, from the discussions we've had on the blogs before, there were only about 15 or so people interested in the 2xl. In threadless terms, that's tiny.

eh, i could use the girly 2X, the XL is a little snug.

i just use it as motovation to try and loose a little weight, so ill fit in it better.

Just an idea...

how bout a sign up?

type a or b next to your name:

A) wears xl, would prefer 2xl

or

b)buys guy tees(would rather buy girls 2xl)

my gripe is the shirts run differently depending on the color

Well, I did write you guys and you guys gave me a half-assed answer that was sort of like, "well, sorry, but we don't want to change how things are"

I am just trying to see if others feel the same. I don't think it's Threadless' place to tell its users what they can and can not put in ther blogs.

If enough people say they would also like an 2XL girly size, then I believe Threadless should sit up and pay attention. ALSO, if you guys are just going to ignore us anyways, why does it matter what I write in my blog? I had had the impressing Threadless was a lot more open to the voice of its clients, but apparently I was wrong.

rudra on Oct 25 '06 at 5:07pm
wow - no need to get testy

your question is a service one - and in theory they don't answer service questions in the blogs - because they can't have someone sit and screen the blogs all day - not because your opinion doesn't matter.

they did respond to your question, with an answer that makes business sense. it sucks if you are one of the people who would like an aditional size, but unless there is a "significant" demand for an additional size, it's not a good business decision for them.

i wear a girly L - but i understand your point. my sister is, shall we say, very "well endowed" - she needs a guys XL - so that's what she buys. there are times when she wants more form-fitting clothes, but on a day-to-day basis she is actually happier with the guys fit because it draws less attention. if a large enough girly style was printed - she probably would still buy the guys - and i think that is the case for many of the larger size girls - which is why they print larger batches of guys shirts and fewer large girly shirts. it's economics.

Wow, you've gotten really rude over something that's not a big deal.

No one is trying to discriminate people of your size by what shirt sizes they offer.

Buy a Guys L, buy a Girly XL, or don't shop here at all if you don't like it.

Telling them that there is a demand for Girly 2XLs politely would be one thing, but demanding it, getting pissy and rude when you don't get your way is another.

You're lucky Brianne has some patience.
shimala
shimala on Oct 25 '06 at 5:18pm
whoa easy there... I don't think the initial answer was half-assed.

A few years ago we didn't even carry girly sizes, then added M/OS and Large to the site, then a year later we added small and then added XL after that(or maybe it was XL and then s,small). As we've grown we've expanded the lines as we saw needed. 2XL girly will probably come sometime in the future but as of right now it's not.

Posting stuff like this doesn't go unnoticed and will help bring them to the site sooner than later.
Jewstice
Jewstice on Oct 25 '06 at 5:24pm
You seem to be forgetting that they are a company, and that they do want to make a profit. Printing every shirt on 2xl, when its a gamble if anyone will even buy them, would be losing them money.

They seem to be trying to cater to the customer's needs, but they can't make changes for just one customer.

This is just my opinion.

dear kristenlovesdinnerbuthatesbigbustedwomen,

don't put down a girl for asking threadless to add another size. I am sure thats how guys got a 2X option. Now that Threadless has it on their radar, and people on the blogs know that someone is rallying for it, maybe something good can come out of it.

Negala,

I don't think Kirsten was trying to be rude, and I never heard her say that she hated big busted women, nor did I get that vibe from her.

She was just stating that maybe the situation could have been handled better. Sparkly did seem to be upset for no reason at all, as I saw that Threadless did nothing wrong to her. They responded to her e-mails, and I did not see them as being rude to her.

Maybe you should think before you assume things about people who have more sense than you do.

After I bought my first shirt, a girly XL, and found it more snug than I'd like, I too wrote them an e-mail about it, and I'm pretty sure that I also suggested that a 2X option for girls would be nice. (I don't recall getting a response, but I wasn't really expecting one, just wanted to offer my $.02.)

So now I fall into Jennifuhrer's category b) I buy guys larges, but would buy a girl's 2x instead if it was available. I appreciate that it sounds like they're open to it in the future even if they don't have any plans right at this moment, at least.

Basically, right now, it's not practical/economical for threadless. Larger girls can either squeeze into a girly XL or a guy's size until it becomes beneficial for them to make girly 2XLs. Yes, they might lose a few customers by not having 2XLs. But when you compare the potential profit lost from the few girls who can't/won't buy any of what they sell now with the amount it would cost for them to print either too many 2XLs (= losing money) or just a few 2XLs (much lower profit margin, less hassle, maybe get a tiny profit if they're lucky), it just doesn't make sense for them to print 2XLs right now. Also, unless the people who'll buy 2XLs plan to buy every shirt that comes out, there will probably be a lot of batches with just a few 2XLs sold and the rest sitting on a shelf. Obviously, threadless wants to keep its customers happy, but they're a business, and only the most obsessively, unhealthily customer-loving businesses would willingly take a huge risk of losing money to keep a tiny portion of its clientele happy.

at the end of the day, its threadless's choice. so if you want the girly 2xl option all you can do is send them an email and post a blog every other month or so for newcomers to let them know what they can do if they also want a 2xl. then, one day, maybe you will change threadless's mind(s) :)

If you have percieved me as rude, perhaps you should read over your own comment once more.

"People of your size" "Shop somewhere else" "No one is trying to discriminate" sends an awfully contradictory message.

Maybe I spoke forcefully, but at least I don't disrespect people because they aren't of my size.

I....'m also a little curious as to what Brianne would do to me .

Negala on Oct 25 '06 at 7:22pm
i did read your comment, and i do agree with you that she was being strong with her wording, but i think she was just really mad and giving a gut reaction comment rather than one that was more diplomatic. i also think that threadless addressed her concerns appropriately *thumbs up*

as for your comment, the only thing that struck a nerve with me was "Buy a Guys L, buy a Girly XL, or don't shop here at all if you don't like it". if people just accepted things as they are then nothing would ever get done/change. this girl likes threadless and she just wants to get their great designs on a tshirt that she can be comfortable in. theres no harm in asking for what you want (as long as you do it with a kind tone, of course, which I am sure Sparkly will try to do in the future).

unfortunatly, blogs don't allow for inflection, so we can't tell if sparkly was just pissass mad or actually being rude, nor can you tell that I was just kidding around when I put "doesn't love people with boobs" in your name (seriously-i was just kidding).

chelly

laborpuss is just being silly.

as far as i'm concerned, threadless should have tried girl 2XL the same time they did guy 2XL and then gone from there.

it is very difficult to see that the guys have the size and the girls do not. guys probably don't really mind contacting threadless and saying, "hey, i'm too much man for threadless. hook me up." girls, on the other hand, have probably spent their lives adapting to men's cut clothing.

i don't think there is anything wrong w/ this blogger being upset w/ the response received from threadless. neither party was in the wrong, but it really is a shame that the situation is what it is.

i want 2xl girly. i hate the way guys shirts fit, and that they aren't printed on AA. ( Also the Mediums are too big and the smalls are too small) I'd love to have a little larger of a shirt, especially since colors and sizes very, i want to be sure they would fit.

Damn these girly body parts of mine....

And now that i think about it. How the hell do i wear a girly xl (i want 2xl), but the mens mediums are too big. That just proves that those names mean nothing and they secretly force women to want to be stick thin!!! (no offence to those naturally thin)

I joined just to respond to this (extremely old) blog. I too, would love the girly shirts to be printed in 2xL. Buying a guys large just isn't the same, given that unless they are threadless select, they are just gross (sorry threadless) plain hanes tshirts. AA shirts have a much better fit and are of a much better quality IMO.

I want to buy one of the new shirts today or tomorrow, and I'm not sure which size to get. I always got along well with XL, but I might like a baggier fit ... or are the new shirts so tight that you have to order a size up anyways?
