This is my one pet peeve. along with the "your, you're" thing.

YOU'RE IS A CONJUCTION/VERb (conjunctive verb?) YOU'RE going to the mall, right?

I never understood the "its" "it's" thing, because I've heard that "it's" is it is, but never possesive ("it's book")

it makes sense for it to be confusing, but yes

it's = it is
its = the possessive of "it"

i.e. it's going to its birthday party.

indie eclaire: It's just because the possessive form of the pronoun it doesn't use an apostrophe to indicate its possessiveness. That's the best explanation I can give.

i totally agree with your irritation and incorrect grammer. The thing i hate most is when people "shorten" words or make them "cooler" (KOOLER-god that kills me) i.e life=life, girl=gurl, skool=school, too/two/to=2. Myspace is full of that. i personally think they make you seem unintelligent

My roomie gave me this shirt and it was the most fabulous timing ever. I had just proofread another girl's paper and I cannot tell you how many times I crossed out "their" and wrote in "there", and vice versa. I finally wrote her a note at the top of the paper:
Their=They possessive
There=As in, "That farmhouse, there."

I hove no idea if she got the message. Stupid freshmen...

OH NO I FORGOT THE APOSTOPHE IN THE WORD THATS, MAKING IT NO LONGER A CONTRACTION INSTEAD IT IS NOW POSSESIVE BUT THE WORD THAT DOESN'T REPRESENT ANYTHING THAT IS TANGABLE AND CANNOT POSSES ANYTHING ON ITS OWN. THE WORLD CUMBLES INTO CHAOS!

My pet peeve is "grammar" and "grammer".
Call me finicky but I just don't see how it mutated into grammer. :D
