are you using the magnifying glass as a lever? what?

I thought the string holding it up got burnt or something?

As far as I can see -

The fan blows the balloon which releases the spring, which cuts the string, which drops the cheese, which lights the bulb, which focuses the light through the magnifying lenses, which burns the string which drops the toast in the toaster.

I think...!

then what pushes the toaster down?

Oh you have to do that yourself

ther magnifying glass burns the string to drop the weight on the toaster lever... but the string that hold up the bread would not burn the righ spot for it to fall
sirensrising
sirensrising on Jun 04 '07 at 10:06am
There's a little weight that falls to push it down, Staffell.

13strong on Jun 04 '07 at 10:07am
Ah - no. If you look, the magnifying lenses burn through TWO pieces of string - first the one holding the bread, which drops into the toaster. THEN, the one holding a little weight, which presumably drops down and pushes the lever.

Solved!
kissmeimshitfaced
kissmeimshitfaced on Jun 04 '07 at 10:08am
Oh yeah I see the weight now
staffell
   staffell on Jun 04 '07 at 10:08am
I see that, but I think it's too much of a risk. I'd have devised a much better system
staffell
   staffell on Jun 04 '07 at 10:09am
Actually, the weight is poised above the wrong lever. What a terrible design.
travis76
   travis76 on Jun 04 '07 at 10:09am
i think it burns both the string securing the toast as well as the weight that turns on the toaster

travis76
   travis76 on Jun 04 '07 at 10:10am
yeah, looks like wrong lever...and the toast may still be tangled in string and never fall- or some string falls in too and catches the house on fire.

looks good, but has flaws.
rhythmdev9
rhythmdev9 on Jun 04 '07 at 10:19am
yeah why not just have the bread waiting in the toaster... i think the string would get caught in the toaster
13strong
13strong on Jun 04 '07 at 10:25am
I think the flaws are part of the fun. Like Wallace's inventions in Wallace and Gromit - ingenious but kind of stupid and flawed and unreliable. Has anyone seen The Wrong Trousers? There's a great scene where the life-aiding inventions that previously worked so well go horribly wrong.

oh yeah don't get me wrong i love it gave it $5... and i'm on the fence about buying it...

And I don't think that mouse is going to sit still and wait for the first half to process before spinning to get that cheese.

The last part is kind of wonky as the bread will turn 90 degrees before going in the toaster and there will be more string flapping around.

Geez this a fun shirt!!!!

if you gave it $5 you shouldn't be "on the fence" to buy it, you already should of :P

hahaha!! I love the fact that it has caused so much debate already.

you are correct the first rope is burnt releasing the bread the bread falls in the toaster, then the lever is pressed by the weight (which is on the correct side according to the toaster design I used).

The whole thing is a bit of a joke (my reasons were more complicated). No one would ever really build something like this for regular use, so have fun with it!

Whew, I'm glad all that was figured out. I used this as the blueprint for my new toaster and was just about to test it out... thanks to all!!!

@ 13strong: In the end, I think Wallace is a better inventor than this one :) (considering moon travel and window cleaning service)

the lightbulb is shown the the magnifying glass and burns through the string.

bell rings when the bread falls in the toaster

Either way, there is going to be some toasty string included in your meal, and that makes everyone happy right?

the magnifying glass burns the balloon and it pops open the rabbit's head the brain of which gets tossed out by the spring onto the lady's lap, and then she screams and gets traumatized and is put through years of therapy, to no avail, causing her children to hate both their psychotic mother and her crazed hatred of rube goldberg devices, which THEN causes the said disgruntled children to destroy the device and make the toast themselves.

happy?

Why should anyone debate the whole physics behind the operation of a "t-shirt" based on a children's game! Personally, hope the person that set up the system remembered to set the timer on the toaster. no elaborate mechanism is going to save that black toast. onhoes!
