I am having a hard time figuring out the criteria for a submission being approved. Two of my designs, I somewhat expected to not make it through...one was potentially offensive:

and the other was leaning towards copyright issues, I guess:

But the third one:

while certainly is not up to par design-wise with a lot of the fun stuff on this site, but I daresay was certainly as good as a lot of the stuff making it through...it just hurts, you know? So, I guess I just wonder how this all works. Well, I still have a few more pending approval. I guess I'll just cross my fingers!

Thank you for this opportunity to rant.

the 3rd one might have copyright on the image you used.
do what everyone does; make a poor trace of the image and then use it.

I've found that this site tends to dislike text on their graphic tees.

Podium: The image is not copyrighted...it is from a copyright free book that I own.

They're also larger than the required dimensions I think.

on the 3rd one... why submit something that just ends on the right side and the top of the head, at least finish it off. Try working your text into the design more and try to stay away from standard fonts.

the first one is debateable.
the second may as well be an advert for roos.
and the third, yeah, like shimala said, a design should be something more than clip art and a standard font.

I think people are missing the point of this blog...it's mostly sarcasm. Unfortunately I didn't put a lot into these designs. I never expected a lot of support from them...my point is more that what gets through seems a bit arbitrary. I was just venting, and being a bit of a smartass, cause hell, that's just what I do.

However, thanks to those who give real critiques. That is what helps one to improve.

Also, I should add that these designs were actually from other types of projects, ie posters etc, and modified to fit the tees. That accounts for the cropped head. In the poster it the red was transparent, but can't really do the transparency as well on the shirt.

Torakamikaze: In response to your statement, my intention is to figure out why so much bad design gets through. My posts were not so hot, I get that...but there are a lot that are equally poor that fly under the radar. I'm just trying to figure out how to improve.

BMM, you need to be more receptive to critism. Although I agree that some of the designs could have been approved, I do agree that Threadless has the right to decline anything they want. If you don't like getting rejected for your work, maybe you should try practicing a little more. I hate to be a dick about this situation but stop being a bitch about not getting your crappy work approved.

If you don't like the site, why do you keep coming back.

Poster design...t-shirt design....whatever those are up there, they are not good. It's not that they are terrible, but these look like projects for someone's very first design class.

Yeah, mezo...and i've seen your work...not feelin' it either. Honestly, this whole blog has been a joke for me to waste time at work. I realize those suck. I'm just having a wee bit of fun. Thanks for joining in.

Westwood

So basically you submitted some really sub-par designs, cried about it, people told you they sucked, so now you're pretending you meant for them to be hideous? Cuz it's cool?
mezo

So sorry, bmm. Were you a close personal friend of the Kennedy's? I suppose you find the Misfits also rude, huh?

Let me clarify since you seem to be overly sensitive....
It's not that your illustrative work is bad, because it's not. I like your tennis shoe illustration. It's nice and crisp. Your hand is interestingly rendered, too, even if the colors are awkward. But the moment you lay text on these 2 illustrations, they go from decent illustrations to amateur designs.

No, I through some pieces from other projects together to see what happened with no expectations. And I'm saying that I don't see them being subpar to a lot of other work on here, granted, there are a great many that are fantastic and far superior to anything I could do...but I want to understand why some of the bad designs make it through. There doesn't seem to be a lot of logic to the process.

That way I can improve future projects. I actually don't have any problems with the criticism, I don't believe, aside from useless comments, that really give no help to improving one's work, like "those suck" or "those are sub-par designs" I've not commented on any of the criticism. I've just continued to try to find out how the process works, so I can fair better in the future.
