UK locations. Two in London, one Windsor, one Wiltshire. The South. Two in Scotland. North.

Because everything that's not the Southernly South or the most Northern of North must be a wasteland where we all live in coal mines?

One location in between the two extremes might have been fun!

Let me suggest Manchester. It'll be the capital one day, you know.

But three London locations!? I hear they HAVE a transport system. We have to travel by coal cart here.

Maybe they went off addresses... most of their UK orders ship to London?

To be fair Glasgow is supposed to be good for a night out, but at the end of the day would you really want to spend any amount of time in a place that invented battered mars bars?

It is a fantastic night out and a good city.

I don't get why Edinburgh needs two. Is it honestly so large that the prospect of travelling across it is so great?

Dudley Zoo would be great, in the walkthrough Lemur enclosure.
Wales dosent even get a look in. Im not surprised, Ive only ever met one American who knew where Wales was.

I guess, considering the theme of the competition, they picked their locations according to where people go on holiday. Not a lot of international holiday-makers heading to that bejewelled utopia that is the North of England. Same goes for Glasgow.

I love bits of the North - the moors, Newcastle, Durham, etc etc, but it ain't exactly a tourist hotspot, compared with London or Edinburgh.

Stubby, I think you are a little mixed up. Deep fried mars bars are an east coast invention. I'm feeling a lot of unfounded animosity towards Glasgow here. This was ment to be a blog about having more locations, not saying some are shite.

I'll be interested to see if anyone makes it to Loch Ness by the end of the week. That's a pretty special trip in itself. I wonder if the Threadless staff think that we all live next to Loch Ness, chasing haggis and painting our faces blue.

I mean, come on. That's only like 25% of the population...

I met an American who kelpt talking about the welch people. He was the same one who thought that Kate Winslet's character in Titanic was real, and was in fact the last living survivor.

We may have come up with the deep-fried Mars Bar, but Glaswegians invented the Scooby Snack (available from that wee van outside the Botanic Gardens on a weekend night). It is a much under-appreciated but extremely important cultural and culinary event.

Honestly, my memories of it are hazy. All I know is that I sat in the middle of a roundabout a little further up the road, munching on its filthy goodness. Then we stumbled home.

I suspect that my memories of it are hazy in order to protect me from the wondrous splendour of it's gastronomical achievements.

Believe it or not, a lot of tourism from overseas come to East Anglia (Norfolk and Suffolk) where there is plenty of history and buildings to explore (day out trip) or even Yorkshire for the countryside however, it is still always London and Edinburgh (or Glasgow) that get choosen instead of anywhere else.

Makes me sad.

13strong on May 30 '07 at 5:44am
I don't think the North is undeserving of tourism - Yorkshire is beautiful. But it doesn't have the international reputation of London or Edinburgh. Which is weird, considering the North is the home of a lot of British cultural icons - the Brontes, DH Lawrence (I think...), Michael Palin!

I may have to make a trip down to said van (after a few shandies).

Most areas have something of outstanding beauty to offer, but I think 13strong is right, it will always be London or Edinburgh. My next holiday will be visiting catles in Wales.

Oh well, I can still enter the competition... I just feel so... unoriginal.

Peater - I highly recommend heading through to Glasgow, just to get a sense of Scotland's real culture and industrial history. Head to Glasgow Cathedral and the nearby Necropolis - it's beautiful, has an amazing history, and if you're lucky you might catch some musicians practicing inside. Glasgow's only 45 minutes on the train from Edinburgh, and there's a regular service.

If you want any tips on things to do or see in Edinburgh, just ask!
