Just curious if anyone here has been to SXSW and NOT been a resident of Austin or a big-time music muckety-muck. I'm about 84 percent sure I'm going this year (It's next month) but from everything I've read, you probably should have one of those wristband thingy-s to get into the shows, and even then the first batch are sold only to Austin residents and the next batch go on sale long before I'll be getting there (they don't sell them through the mail or on-line... you have to be there in person).

Now, they do state that "a limited number of tickets are available" at each venue site right before the show starts. What I want to know is it worth my time to go down there and take a chance to get into some of the shows? They said that after industry execs with the special badges get in and THEN the local who bought wrist bands get in, THEN they will sell whatever tickets they have left. I know we might be able to get into some of the less popular shows, but is it mass chaos to try to see a show? Anyone been there without the special wristband and how hard was it to get into a show?

I've gone, but my friends always got me a band before I went. I think it's a really big pain if you don't.

But what about getting into shows? Hard hard is that? I know they said they may have a limited number of tickets available to people standing in line, after all the badge/wristband people get it? Anyone experienced standing in line? Was it worth it or a big waste of time?
