Even the pictures for this shirt are offensive. I can't believe this got printed. If i see this shirt on a hipster in Williamsburg I'm putting em' on a train to Bushwick.

true racism is being afraid to make jokes about other people's fear of what they percieve as "a different culture". people are the same everywhere.

true racism is being afraid to make jokes about other people's....

not really dude. true racism is an illogical step in determining why you are better than anoher arbitrary-labeled group of people.

obviously people are not the same everywhere in terms of cultural preferences and physical looks, but we're all humans and equal from nature's side.

if this shirt's offensive to you, you're probably not from the ghetto or never even been there... you're also an uptight retard too...

I'm from the ghetto (Chicago) and I'm (a little) offended. I mean, it is kinda funny and the photo is hilarious, but I'm offended that "the ghetto", in the eyes of this designer is only about blood, gangs, police and crime.

I'm an uptight retard who grew up in the projects!!! YAY!!!

I just know the north side man.

Drivin' in Benzes, goin' to Medievil Times, using $20s as bookmarks, playing b-ball with non-minorities, and shopping at Dominics.

Tribune rules, fuck the Sox.

Used to be able to see White Sox park out of my bedroom window there... watched the fireworks on Saturday nights from the window. Strangly, I became a Cub fan... for a short while, then I grew up, wised up and came back "home"

Are you from Palatine, shirt?
tina-tinkle-toes
tina-tinkle-toes on Jan 08 '07 at 6:13pm
wow, okay, I thought the shirt was funny basically because I live in a suburb right outside of a ghetto, and all the kids in my cozy suburb are like "I'm so ghetto! Life's so tough!" And I'm like, "umm.. you live in a suburb." The whole concept of the ghetto being this place where people want to be is strangely (strange only because it's a place with hard-core struggle) enough true... it's like you can't have components of the culture if you're not from there... and Americans, well, in many ways worship that culture and people want to be a part of it. People don't want to be wannabes (or maybe the grass is greener on the other side?)

And WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?! Where do you people live where it's okay to make such racist comments (- I'm not talking about the shirt, I'm talking about some of you peeps)? Okay, just to get the definition straight: racism is intolerance based on another's ethnicity, and racism is based on tribalism + ignorance (usually, it could also be based on douch-dom and insanity). Some of you people sound like my cousins who live out in white uneducated land ("I'm going to pretend I actually understand something about a culture I've only had exposure to on TV and joke about it, even though all I have a grasp of is the culture's stereotype"). Fuck, retards are in abundance!

tina-tinkle-toes

or better yet, where do I live? Why is it that I'm so surprised people don't know how to deal with issues like racism and sexism in an intelligent, productive manner, instead of just awkwardly throwing around jokes and thinking that you're actually making a point? Oh right, I live in the land of the integrated people who consider people as people... a rare gem in my country, I forget sometimes...
Laborpsus
Laborpsus on Jan 08 '07 at 6:37pm
crazy bitch, you live in the Netherlands, right?

there must be a total of 1 black person there. THERE IS ONLY ONE GHETTO, AND IT'S IN AMERICA.

whoa, hey Laborpsus, I was just making a comment on cultural/national differences pertaining to gender roles when I mentioned that country- 'cause Rooster said something like don't be angry that that's just the way it is- my point is that it doesn't have to be that way. I said I'd move there, not that I do live there, speaking of illiteracy...

hmmm... what else... to clear things up, I live adjacent to the West side.

i think the shirt is funny in its way, i don't find it universally offensive.

but its something i could not wear, because it would have been offensive in places i've been and to people i have respected. i doubt this would have been well-received if i'd been wearing it up on the 16th floors in the old cabrini, or hanging around austin village or any number of other places i have spent time. even wearing it outside those areas while working and hanging with tons of people who lived in the so-called ghetto would have seemed off to me, i think they would have been like wtf. i think it would have come off as a mockery.

that might make me an uptight retard to some, but to each their own of course. i would not be offended if i saw some white hipster wearing this, but i would surely assume they hadn't been there. might be an interesting conversation starter.
