Why the hate? Why the drama?

Here's a great example of Threadless xenophobia.

Ooh, it's not the typical Threadless type submission. And look, people are supporting it. What a scandal!

Must be fake accounts right? Well that was the start of the drama. But no, no fake accounts, as many of them have proven through posts, etc.

Hundreds of flame posts later... we have this disaster.

What the fuck Threadless? I'd never have thought this to be such a cruel community.

Oh was I surprised.

It's a good submission.

Now it's a wreck.

Ugh, fuck all of you.

it seems you didn't miss it after all, sorry for taking up room.

The point is, stereotypes are a negative word for a useful device. Certain cultures have certain traits, and it's possible to make fairly accurate generalizations based on certain themes. I'm not passing judgement, I'm just trying to you all out.

sonmi, to be fair... Lil' Soap, Goldilocks and the 3 Beers, Facial Hair Club for Men, Monday!!!, Batmobile Lost a Wheel, anything Glennz or Tom Burns normally do, and COUNTLESS other Threadless shirts are obviously "artsy/pretentious/indie art" shirts.

God I HATE lil' soap. However I wore Facial Hair Club for Men today, but only because I have the hots for the guy who designed it.

I think that lately the designs do fit the indie stereotype but overall threadless does have a wide variety of shirts

you know how everyone is with new members.

I see your point, how it's possible more people besides LL would like this design enough to buy it, but to have someone else come in and start telling you to "shut the fuck up, it's better than all the flowers, guitars, and artsy shit you submit", you can't say people aren't going to get insulted and chip in their two cents.

urbanraptor already posted several sites that sell that same shirt. what's going on?
sonmi
   sonmi on Jan 29 '07 at 9:01pm
i agree that a majority are artsy (and it saddens me that these are thought to be pretentious? i mean, what does that word even mean to people anymore?), but threadless certainly has a wide range of other shirts; enough so that the claim is pretty unjust.
ofthecoast
ofthecoast on Jan 29 '07 at 9:01pm
See, I always thought it was impossible to be boring and be at laser quest at the same time.

Apparently I was mistaken. Unfortunate.

No, I didn't miss your refutation, actually.

Yes, I have said some hostile things, to some other members. I don't particularily see anything that bad about what I said to you on the otherhand. However, the ones that are at the brunt of the profane remarks made remarks of their own that surely warranted the abuse. Like theraptordude (I think that the right name), and Laborpsus, who contributed nothing but flames, and made threats to hack LL.

And I suppose you missed the whole last part of my original statement to you where I admitted that one shouldn't assume stereotypes? You didn't post that part.

Hadley, not to ruin your day, but I hear the guy who designed Facial Hair Club for Men is actually attracted to young asian boys.
pennyroyale
pennyroyale on Jan 29 '07 at 9:02pm
Ah, theurbanraptor, that was the guy.

Well he's making threats to hack our site. How's that for nice?

IAFAG = I am a fag???

anyway let me break it down for you. The threadless community is very protective of the democracy that gets shirts printed.

The threadless community are always on the look out for submitters trying to subverse this democracy through multiple fake accounts or SPAMVOTE-ing.

Sometimes, user like UrbanRaptor can become overzealous when pointing out suspicious goings on.

Normaly, this issues are quickly resolved however this time, things have gotten more crazy than usual.

This is down to two insular communities with strong opinions both not really understanding where the other is coming from.

If you understood threadless properly this would never of happened, however we cant blame you for your naievity.

There is real MONEY at stake over here, so things get very heated.

No one wants to see a rip-off get teh mighty print.

Both communities are acting like douchbags, me included.

The rest is just mindless rhetoric.

Hare Krishna.

GUYS Lil' Soap is the EPITOME of modern art. The fact that you can't see it is indicitve of its artistic GENIUS. The soap represents modern society and the "cute" face it places on the evils of repression, misogyny capitalist exploitation and rampant consumerism. It SAYS it wants to be rubbed on your butt, but it really wants to violently anally rape you, as it did the women and children of the third world countries America has militarily and economicly "invaded".

JESUS, guys! Do I have to spell it out?!?!?!?

In most social situations it's safest to test the water before hopping in, but especially online. In a place where only time can really prove you to be a genuine part of a group, you can't really blame people for being suspicious. If you'd been around you would know urbanraptor is always putting up similar pieces for discussion of validity. Sometimes things are deemed different enough to be accepted and sometimes not. Things got hostile on both sides and I can see to an extent all points of view, but the attacks on people and even ending this post in "ugh fuck all of you" isn't going to make anyone think their views of your group were wrong.
