If you've seen a movie recently, post a short review and rate the movie on a scale of 1-10. The movies don't have to be new, they can be old movies, or movies that you've seen a hundred times over. I just thought that this might be fun and a good way to get recommendations for movies to watch.
Reviews: Bob the Butler 6.5/10 Even though this was supposed to be a "children's movie", I still really enjoyed it. Tom Green was his usual obnoxious self, but he was actually given some real emotions in this film, which made you actually care about his character. The humor might be an aquired taste, but if you give this a chance, its really an enjoyable film. Screwed 6.5/10 It's no Dirty Work, but it is worth checking out. If you like Norm MacDonald, you'll like this movie. It is full of his dry humor, and many tasteless jokes. Again, this movie is an aquired taste, so watch only if you are willing to give it a chance. Heartbreakers 6/10 This was more of a "chick flick", but I still found myself laughing out loud on some instances. Most of all, this movie is a fun watch, with both humor and romance thrown in. More tolerable than most generic romantic comedies that I've seen. Knots 5/10 When I rented this, I was expecting a "romantic comedy with a twist", what I got was a drama with some romance thrown in. The movie didn't really have any comedic elements, and was more depressing than it was funny. I would recommend this if you are in the mood for a romantic drama with more twists than usual. Ren and Stimpy - 1st and 2nd seasons 9/10 This show is great, and never gets old. I've enjoyed it and found it hilarious for almost my entire life. Still funny after 15 years. Serenity 5/10 This movie was exactly what I expected from it, and that wasn't much. A basic sci-fi/action movie that didn't really have too much originality to it. The action was good, but the storyline was somewhat lacking. Kirsten thought the captain, Nathan Fillion, was a hottie. Dirty Work 10/10 One of my all time favorite movies. This never gets old for me, and I never get tired of Norm MacDonald's "so bad it's good" acting. If you haven't seen this one, you really need to check it out. Pretty much an instant classic. Big Love - The Complete First Season 8/10 When I first started watching this show, I thought it was just "ok", but not that great. As the season progressed, I saw how really great it actually was. The show has a unique concept, which is a great thing to have in my opinion. I had never seen a show or movie that dealt with the idea of poligamy before this, and I really found it interesting. This show has both comedy and drama and does a great job of keeping the story interesting. Jersey Girl 4/10 I didn't really have high expectations for this film, and I was glad that I didn't. Otherwise I would have been disappointed. I've seen this movie before, not this actual film, but other films with pretty much the same exact premise. I was bored through almost the entire movie. I expected more from Kevin Smith. Maybe he should stick to pure comedy. George Carlin - Complaints and Greivances 9/10 I love George Carlin. I love his books, his cds, and his stand-up. I've watched this before, but for some reason it still hasn't gotten old. While some of his jokes may seem a bit "juvenile", I still love the hell out of the dirty old man. Before Sunset 8/10 This movie was much better than I had expected. It is completely dialogue driven, and the time between cuts is much longer than anything else I can remember seeing. It must have been tough to film those long cuts without any mistakes. A romantic drama that is extremely well written. The OH in Ohio 7/10 Much better of a movie than I had expected. The story was unique, and the movie had a lot of comical and awkward moments. An American Werewolf in Paris 4/10 Does not live up to the original at all. The story is bad, the characters are bad, the effects are bad. (The CG transformation has nothing on the transformation scene from the original.) Good for a few laughs and for a few tit shots, but not much else. Prime 6/10 This one was more interesting than I expected it to be. I actually really enjoyed some parts and found myself laughing out loud. A decent romantic comedy. Zodiac 8/10 What I saw of it was great. But hey, its a David Fincher movie, so it had to be good. Not as groundbreaking as Fight Club or Se7en, but still an honorable mention, and it was better than Panic Room. I didn't catch the entire movie though, because I was dead tired, and the darkness of the theater caused me to doze during a few parts. Really enjoyed what I saw though. Children of Men 9/10 Certainly one of the best movies I have seen in quite some time. The acting was superb, especially Clive Owen. I thought he was the perfect choice for his role, and couldn't think of anyone else that could have done a better job. The rest of the cast was also chosen well, and I cannot think of a single character that seemed out of place. This movie was packed with action, suspense, and drama. It isn't often that I find a movie that combines these three elements well, but this one did a fine job. I found myself really caring about the characters and what they were trying to accomplish. To bring my very short review to its conclusion, I would like to say that this film also deals with much needed subject matter. Overpopulation is a real threat, and this movie explains one of the possible scenarios that might come in to play to combat this particular problem. I'm not saying that this is likely to take place, I'm just saying that it is a possibility and this film has brought that into the light. Futurama: The Complete Series - 10/10 While I may not care much for the Simpson's, I have been a fan of Matt Groening's Futurama for as long as I can recall. The premise of the show is unique as are the characters, and the show never seemed to lose its "touch", even after five seasons. The first season starts out a bit slow, but that is expected of any television show; animated or non-animated alike. I do not see this as something that takes away from the show, but rather as something that adds to it. The slow start is used to go through the necessary back story on the characters, and to setup the basis of the plot. I was actually happy that they didn't jump right into some insane storyline as some shows have done in the past. The slow start helped to build the characters, which is really what the show is all about anyways. Speaking of the characters; they are some of the most unique and interesting personalities that I have ever seen on the screen. The personalities somehow do not seem fabricated, and seem like the characters actually do exist in their own world. I can't help myself from cracking up with just about every word that comes out of Dr. Zoidberg's mouth and the Professor never fails to impress me with his level of extreme distaste for all of the other characters. There isn't one character on the show that I actually dislike, which is a rare occurrence for me. Usually it seems like sometimes characters are just thrown in for filler, but Futurama doesn't have any filler. Each character adds something special to the show, and without even just one, it wouldn't be the same show. Still on the subject of the characters, the cast chosen to voice them was also perfectly fitting. I never thought that Peg, from Married with Children would work out, but somehow she does just fine. Fry's voice was also perfectly casted, and is also my favorite human character voice. As for non-human characters, I am undecided on which I favor. I am on the fence between Bender and Dr. Zoidberg. Each has a voice that fits the character's personality perfectly, and I really cannot choose who is better casted. The foundation of the show is the characters and their personalities, but the rest is composed of plot and storytelling. This is another area where this show really shines brightly. As with the characters, I didn't find one episode or storyline that I disliked. The main thing I loved about the storyline was the variety. While most episodes have a fair balance of humor and emotion, there are some that are full of action, some that are full of over-the-top humor, some that are very emotional and touching, and some that are just plain crazy. It is this variety that adds to the replay value of this series. Each episode is unique and really stands out, but several plot lines continue from one episode to another. I also thought it was a great idea to tie some of the later episodes into the very early episodes. It provides answers to many questions, and again, adds to the replay value. Overall, Futurama may just be one of the most unique and intelligent animated series of our time. It has the characters, the plot, and the humor that I look for in a great television series; along with a whole lot more. It may have been cut short, but the episodes that do exist are still great, and still highly re-watchable. Also, from what I understand, there are plans to release a Futurama movie this holiday season, so hopefully that will fuel the hunger of the avid fan. Who knows? It could bring new life to the series as well, and a new season could be in the works sometime in the not-so-distant future. Either way, there is new material to look forward to, and even if that falls flat, the five seasons on dvd are something that will never grow old.
