Don't be naive. Of course you can wear this t-shirt.

I was in the Regular Army for over 4 yrs.
isneked
isneked on Jun 21 '07 at 9:15pm
no the sheet said before I went to go and swear in that if you obviously support homesexuality (spelt?) you will be punished

of course I can wear I just cant let any of my supiors see it,

which wont be worth it because they will be going to school with me
kiLLyou
kiLLyou on Jun 21 '07 at 9:20pm
OK look, Of course they have stuff like that printed in papers but are your superiors going to pick apart everthing that you wear? Fuck no, they have better things to do and just because you wear a shirt like this does not mean that you obviously MUST support homosexual behavior.

I got out of the Army with a rank of E6 Staff Sgt. so I know what I'm talking about.
isneked
isneked on Jun 21 '07 at 9:23pm
okay I could wear it

epecially because its so sublte

well maybe not it is bright pink heh

but anyway it just would be convient to own since Ill be joining ROTC

I doubt they would do anything more than tell me to change and do some pushups

some of the people at my school have to do a 100 pushups for for punishments

I can only do 35 :(

I guess thats all Im sayin

meh

Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jun 21 '07 at 9:27pm
Wait, so you can actually get punished for merely supporting homosexuality? Why?
kiLLyou
kiLLyou on Jun 21 '07 at 9:30pm
35? keep it up ! make sure you consume as little sugar as possible and keep yourself hydrated. Get your sugars from fresh fruits and work on push-ups every day. Don't forget to mix them up and stay motivated. Another great excercise is the overhand pull-up like the Marines do. Trust me, start doing a lot of those too and you will see a big difference in your upper body strength.

Dips are another fantastic work-out.
kiLLyou
kiLLyou on Jun 21 '07 at 9:30pm
Cactus Pirate Jr. I have NEVER seen anyone get punished for that.
Cactus Pirate Jr.
Cactus Pirate Jr. on Jun 21 '07 at 9:31pm
Oh ok.

But what's up with that contract?
isneked
isneked on Jun 21 '07 at 9:33pm
It must be new because it took up a whole page and the whole other side of the page was about deserters etc

I didnt know being a deserter in wartime was punisible by death

man!

Im already getting excited about the first weekend drill :)
isneked
isneked on Jun 21 '07 at 9:34pm
we had to read it before we swore in
kiLLyou
kiLLyou on Jun 21 '07 at 9:36pm
Of course, but it is not enforced these days either. I believe it should but I have seen it happen and the person did not get executed but they did spend a long time in Leavenworth, Kansas

So is your age wrong on here? 'cause if you aren't 18 you haven't signed up for anything.

Just an FYI in case you get second thoughts.
isneked
isneked on Jun 21 '07 at 11:21pm
You can join at 17

I could have gone to Basic Training this summer if I had signed up earlier and I kind of wish I had
The Wee Straggler
The Wee Straggler on Jun 21 '07 at 11:46pm
Both incorrect.

They have summer camps to recruit high-schoolers, which the recruiter no doubt described as "basic training", but until you're 18 you can't sign a legally binding contract and so you can't be officially part of any branch of the military.

You can walk any time before you turn 18. Anything they have you do before then is just a shell game to make you think otherwise.

That sounds like my idea of hell.

And that rule about homosexuality is absurd and sickening. Stupid fucking army.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 22 '07 at 3:47am
I hope the Wee Straggler is right and you can break free if you feel the need...

Is that 'no supporting homosexuality' rule even legal? Isn't it covered by some form of anti-discrimination act?
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Jun 22 '07 at 3:48am
uhm, not discriminating doesn't really jive with the military's overall philosophy.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 22 '07 at 3:49am
Yeah, I meant a national anti-discrimination act of some form. Or is the military not subject to such things?
13strong
13strong on Jun 22 '07 at 3:51am
The military in the UK I'm sure would be covered by the same anti-discrimination laws as any other employer/state organisation.

I don't know why the US Army would be allowed to get away with shit like that. Thank God I live in the UK.
Vindemiatrix
Vindemiatrix on Jun 22 '07 at 3:53am
Yeah, I'm sure ours is. There was that brouhaha quite recently about commanding officers using slurs during training, or something, wasn't there?

Again, there is a Bill Hicks joke for every occasion:

""Gays in the military . . . here's how I feel about it, alright? Anyone . . . DUMB enough . . . to want to be in the military, should be allowed in. End of fucking story. That should be the only requirement."

No offence, isneked. Bill Hicks' words - not mine. And he's dead, so you can't be angry at him.

homesexuality

Hahahaha! Those perverts! having sex in their own home!
13strong
13strong on Jun 22 '07 at 4:11am
I know some people who could probably be classed as homesexual. You know - those people obsessed with interior design and house prices, who spend every weekend in fucking IKEA.
shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Jun 22 '07 at 4:15am
IKEA would be a great place to fuck. you could pick a new piece of furniture every second

I wonder how they would react if some couple started going at it on one of their showbeds... I bet it's happened. I bet the staff are at it in there all the time.

Cool.

The Wee Straggler come on

try googling it before you post

go type in age of enlistment in google

the minimum age is 17 (with parent consent) and the maximum is the 40s in some branches

I know since the war on terror has started the maximum age has gone up but I dont know when they started letting 17 year olds join

and Basic Training is no summer camp for recruiting

it lasts 9 weeks and I would be in their running with a heavy ass pack, sitting at the shooting range for a few days, throwing gernades ( that might be in AIT but I think its in Basic also) and all the other good stuff

EVERYONE in the military has to go through basic training

though they are diferent in diferent branches and at diferent forts
isneked
isneked on Jun 22 '07 at 2:27pm
hey and dont insult my recruiter he wouldnt lie about something like that hes a good guy haha

pretty much all he talked about in the car ride to MEPS and back was T and A
isneked
isneked on Jun 22 '07 at 2:28pm
and im sure since the military is such a big ass part of our government they can make exceptions as far me not being an adult

if I were to try to leave now it might even be honorable discharge

i can't believe how many people posting here don't know about the "don't ask, don't tell" policy and philosphy in our military. i'm scared and nervous that some of you are actually eligible to vote.

isneked, thanks for serving our country.

Military recruiters lie ALL the time just so you know. its been documented. They have quotas to meet, and since they been indoctrinated by military training they don't really have morals anymore.

Vindemiatrix - for those that don't live in our great country, i dont expect you to know our laws.

However, since I sort of got the vibe that you live in the UK (correct me if I'm wrong), you should be familiar with that law...seeing as how the British military only eased up on it in 2000.

Also, it's great to see that 13strong doesn't know what he's talking about, either.
