Anyone a member of BookCrossing.com? I joined out of boredom one day..and because it looked mildly interesting. Oddly enough, I don't really like to read.

If anyone is a member and wants to trade books or something let me know. :)

radio---Want a book sent to you?

I'm willing to pop one in the mail if you're willing to go to the site and say you received it.

Nothing good gets passed around my area either....kinda sucks because I know exactly where they are, but they're not worth going after.

sure, why not,
i can drop you an email later when i'm home with my address and such...
lots of little kids books are all the action i've seen around here,
nothing worth going looking for...

funny.. I just posted a blog about it a while back tonight.
I think the purpose of the site is to find like books in your city... and go look for it.

Or leave a book somewhere for others to pick up ...
I m not part of it but I do check it out.

Sheepman...you own your own book store?! At 22? You are truly an outstanding person

I think you're right bhoomika. Technically I think you're sposed to leave them for people to find, but I think a lot of people mail them to others anyways. Besides, people in my town don't read....they just exist with the cows.

haha im sorry to hear that. :-)

Ya I do think that people exchange books through mail.. cause I read on someone's profile page where they were talking about it on the site.

Well I really don't have books to exchange since I don't read much and any or all the books that I have .. I like to keep :-)
Good luck though!

Thanks! I know what you mean...my books are kind of pared down right now. I have my "keep" shelf with some books I can't part with. And then I have my shelf of books that I have listed on half.com. I'm just cheap like that. Being a college student I haven't had a lot of time to read novels anyways.

amish, I bookmarked the site. I haven't had much free time to read, either... but it looks interesting. It is kind of like lala. why buy new when you can trade?
amishpowerandlight
amishpowerandlight on May 03 '07 at 11:22pm
Yeah, I know what you mean elwood. Being a student has made me cheap...I go to Barnes and Noble and a) can't find much that I want to read and b) get ticked off because a simple paperback costs so much now.

Besides, I tend to read what other people recommend to me.

I think its pretty interesting to actually look around for a book... but I had no luck.. but I had fun just driving up to a spot and look for the book ( I guess someone got it before I got there) but it looked like scavenger hunt or something.. hehehe

And as a design student, I buy like tons of graphic design book... and I m a really picky reader.. I might get books if someone recommends it.
So recommend away...if u would like to :-)

you can't go to a chain store to find a good book - you have to go to local book dealers. When I was in England I picked up some really good poetry books from a small book shop in London.

bhoomika on May 03 '07 at 11:27pm
As being a poor student.. I use amazon or ebay to buy books.

Elwood.. u r from london? cool!

That's where I usually get my books, too. Little shops in Europe or a little tumbled down type shop near my house (the guy who owns it is English, so that's probably why it's so good).

If there's a new book out that's a bestseller list type I usually just get it from the library because I know I'll never read it again.

elwood78 on May 03 '07 at 11:33pm
amish - are you from Europe or do you just visit there often?

I take out a lot of movies from my library. On occasion I'll take out a book or buy one they're selling. I plan on utilizing it more soon.

I suggest you make cards with Barnes & Noble and always google Barnes & Noble coupon (cause I always print out these 15% off coupon) with the card discount -- the price comes out to be reasonable.

Also get a free card Borders card for discount...

it kinda helps.. .

and ohh okay Elewood.. Thats pretty cool though! I wish I had done some international student thing!!! I wanna have like a 'under the tuscan sun' thing... just move to a new country! It would be cool!

bhoom - I definetely recommend travelling before you get too tied down with a career or a family. I was only in English for a few weeks, but had I the money, I would gladly go back.

I'm English, but I live in America now. I've lived in France and the UK, though.

Thanks for the info on the barnes & noble coupons. I ended up getting a free discount club card when I bought my books for the semester. Maybe I'll go there and buy a discounted moleskine journal or something.

I'm a member.. but I thought the idea was to release them into the wild, not to mail them to people. Am I mistaken?
amishpowerandlight
amishpowerandlight on May 03 '07 at 11:51pm
J-Ray, yeah that's the point, but people do it both ways. I go to school in the middle of nowhere so there isn't much action as far as people reading or wanting to pick up a book. So, I just decided to see if anyone wanted to trade (or just receive a book).
J-Ray
J-Ray on May 03 '07 at 11:53pm
Hmm I guess either way works. I just hope people would register the books I've left out, rather than... who knows what!

right elwood...
before I go abroad.. I really wanna take a road trip too!
Atlanta to San Fransisco or Atlanta to Boston!

At least I have been to India several times!
I m gonna take a European trip Italy-Paris-England.
Would be cool!
