Seriously... what happened to it?

I can only find one blog about the shirt, and when u click the product link blog, it redirects to just the catalog...

Even stranger.. I was able to make this blog about the shirt, but I can't actually get to the page for the shirt.

Oh man that sucks... is it because of the teeshot of the actual I LOVE NY tee?
gordond
gordond on Aug 21 '06 at 1:09pm
I'm going to guess that it's because of the "people may come to confuse one with the other" (I don't know what the legal term for that is) problem.

Hence why FedEx sued Federal Espresso though you'd have to be pretty darn daft to take a package to an espresso store.

gordond is absolutely correct. I don't think it's a battle worth fighting.

It was reprinted once, Doktag. That's when I picked it up!

haha, oh wells... Still got a first edition. In fact, I didn't realise Threadless printed "1st Edition" on it's first run of each shirts until I got this one.

It brought back memories of my old pokemon trading card days... Cause you know, first edition cards were always worth more ;)

New York Loves Its Trademark

New York officials show no mercy in their bid to protect the "I ? New York" logo. The trademark, supplied free of charge by graphic designer Milton Glaser in 1976, helps beckon 140 million tourists to the Empire State each year. As others tried to tap the design over the years, state legal eagles have filed close to 3,000 trademark objections.

Apparel company 4 KAMM International is incensed at New York's pending effort to halt the use of "I ?" SF, Las Vegas, and Paris on everything from bumper stickers to calendars. Last year, New York shut down "I ? Yoga" T-shirts produced by a Florida Bikram yoga outfit. And in October, the U.S. Trademark & Patent Office is expected to hear a case filed by Michael Stewart, a clothing designer in Raleigh, N.C., challenging New York's opposition to "I ? NC."

Lawyers say Stewart's case is stronger than most because of coloring differences and a change in the heart's look. New York says this is about protecting a logo, not upping licensing fees, which totaled $900,000 in the past five years. "We aren't in the business of taking apologies," says Jonathan Faber, a lawyer at Collins, McDonald & Gann, which represents the state.

I actually heard that after 9/11 Milton Glaser made a new logo with the heart with a smudge on it. New York threatened him with a lawsuit as well.

After Wyoming made the jackalope its official trademark thing, they tried to charge the guys who invented them a fee for every one they mounted.

Not like threadlessmarks Tee that don't go through colour changes as1st/2nd/3rd etc edition...So saying your tee was first print is pretty much pointless if the colour options didn't change.

Oddly enough, I've seen several filipino stores rip-off this shirt, and replace the "have never been to" with "love Manila more than". That could be a lawsuit under a lawsuit. Or something.
