i have to have this. i will never have a chance to refer to magritte and nintendo in the same three seconds every again IN MY LIFETIME.

so, for anyone who read my comment on that one shirt design (don't remember what it's called now), i thought i'd give a little background info to my outrageous claim about how i've been to the center of the universe.

the center of the universe is in tulsa, ok, across the street from the williams center and adjacent to the jazz hall of fame. it's on 1st street on the right, if you're ever around that area.

anyway, there is a sculpture there that has planes falling in much the same manner as the shirt, only the sculpture is more interesting because the planes do an escher-esque morph as they fall. i tried to find some pictures of the sculpture, but i couldn't find one that accurately represents it. i think it's called "artificial cloud," if you want to try and check it out.

so there. i've been to the center of the universe. (and so have most college students in this area. =p)

one thing i have noticed when i am scoring submissions to threadless is that most designers do not take into account that their designs are going onto t-shirts. they do not design for the space or the shape of the t-shirt, and some of the designs cannot be properly interpreted without their titles.

consider "A is for Jerks!", for instance. i am not saying that "A is for Jerks" is a bad submission; I actually really like it and considered buying it. i stopped myself when i realized that i liked the combination of the words "A is for Jerks" with the design, not just the design by itself. if the design included the text underneath the picture, i would've totally snatched this shirt up and worn it all the time.

i guess what i am trying to say is that everyone makes some really good designs that are great work and show talent, but very few people are designing with t-shirts in mind, and that makes me sad. =/
