So it's been a slow day at work and everyone's just ticking down the hours till nye celebrations.... I had this idea that I drafted up for the Revs comp.

The idea is that each shirt purchased would also include a set of pens to create a design (see the explantion below). It's a simple concept which gives back to the community and requires all the prizemoney to be given back to threadless so the concept can be realized.

This will probably not be subbed... but if there's enough positive feedback I may consider it... I'm off to the pub... Happy New Year everyone.

That's actually pretty interesting. It would be great giving back to Threadless.

the revolution comp...said, "Forget what sells, forget about making everybody "get it," make it weird and artsy, scare your parents and just forget how it votes!" :D

I say submit it! I love the idea and you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain!

And it fits perfectly with the revolution idea!

Sounds quite awesome! Maybe it could come with some signitures from threadless employees, like a cast would? or as is, great idea.

the idea is interesting, submit it! I'm curious to see what kind of reactions you'd get.

i dont see Threadless permitting the free shirt thing. because i'm sure they make much more money by selling the shirts than just the cost of production. Why would they be sooo generous. It'd be pretty cool, but I don't think they'd go for it in reality.

Plus the draw on your own shirt thing has been done before. Not printed that i can think of... it might have been... but i've seen lame subs with the idea. Atleast yours is nice and clean looking.

Actually, for Revolution, you should just submit it.

"Forget what sells, forget about making everybody "get it," make it weird and artsy, scare your parents and just forget how it votes!"

maybe it could be a little weirder or artsy-er? Though i spose its up to the wearer for that. :P

I agree with cloud_is_to_character. Awesome idea in theory but hard to make it work in reality. But who knows, just sub it! I'm usually wrong about stuff anyway. . .

I'd rather that we pay the full cost of the tee and a portion goes to something worthwhile like sponsoring a family or something.

i like the pattern because this is what we used in yearbook. i don't even know if ppl actually do that anymore now that there is computers technology. anyhow, i like the idea of the winnings paying for a decent pen to come w/ the shirt, but i don't know about the rest of it. still, this makes my head go "pica pica pica"

I think scrap the stuff about the winnings and the free tees - let Threadless do the maths. The idea is an interesting one in itself. Just a pack of 3 pens - like a black, a red and a green? Maybe propose a competition based on the resulting product pics?

Sub it. And see what happens.

reminds me a bit of the Beck album:

only you get stickers with that instead of pens

I like the basic idea, but I don't really like the grid. Perhaps something more like an exquisite corpse design would be better (there's a wikipedia article about exquisite corpse if you don't know it). It would be a design that buyers can extend using their set of pens. Of course, the pre-existing design should lend itself well to extension...

thanks for the further feedback.
still undecided about this... I know it's not that artsy but I've gone for a whole different angle for the theme... & I'd prob change up the winnings idea a little.

one last shot for further feedback before I make a decision.

it's a great idea pickel...

threadless could afford pens, but people already have pens... but the idea of everyone creating their art on your art is cool and ongoing...

but anyone could do this on anything but your idea is still cool and you should sub....

maybe everyone could draw on the shirts, send them back to threadless and then threadless could hold a mass exhibition, sell selected or all of the shirts each with original artwork on top.

half profits to artist half to nominated charity???

what you think?

thanks AM... good feedback... I like the idea of a comp within a comp and part of the proceeds going to charity (great idea).

plus the pens would be for ppl that are not exactly designers, or dont have art pens... everyone should be included otherwise it wouldn't be a revolution... also, it would be cool to have threadless pens.
