I'm sorry, doesn't anyone ever get tired of dumb, overdone, things? I'm not saying Japanese culture and people themselves are dumb, but this anime/manga obsessed type deal is getting a little old. Please, it's getting old.

Edit:
Um.. wow! There's a lot of comments. I don't think that this piece itself is anime or whatever. It's actually a very nice picture and I really didn't mean to offend anyone. Espically if the artist sees this! I'm just saying i'm not particularily a big fan of the subject matter.

Also, to some of you, calm down! It's not that big of a deal. Everyone can have their own opinions.

Another Edit: I edited the "dumb Japanese things" part of the post because that seemed to be getting people the most upset. I just meant I don't like the whole fad involved with the issue.

personally, i'm just tired of the personal music/i-pod/headphone obsession these days. the people look more like nesting dolls to me to worry about the japaneseness of it all.

could these be anymore anime? I mean, look at their giant eyes, pointy chins, and oversized novelty breasts

yeah, i guess i'm also tired of the simplistic curved lines for facial features trend too, which i would safely say is kawaii/anime influenced.
shadowboy

I'm sure that it's all linked anyway, but to me they seem closer to traditional japanese art than to anime.

nothing like manga or anime, and it's a completely different take on the japanese culture.. assuming that they're meant to be geisha, geisha are rarely portrayed popularly (as awesome as their culture is)

i love it.. wish it wasn't so pricey..

I love this shirt, I think it's wonderful and I just bought it. I don't think it looks anime/manga obsessed at all. If you looked at the other designs by this artist, you'll realize that this is just the way they draw their art. But to each her or his own, I suppose. =/

1. That design isn't anime/manga. It is influenced by japanese (visual) culture though.

2. anime/manga comes in different forms and styles. So it's not only dragon ball like figures with sailor moon girls.

3. Why they put so many yellow winegums in bag?!!!! I like the purple ones.

mr.giff on Nov 07 '06 at 6:07pm
Who cares what the hell the design style is? Anime/manga/Matryoshka/stacking dolls/butt plugs...this shirt is horrible no matter how you view it. I was making better bitmap images on paint programs when I was seven. Boring, boring, boring. Aaaand, an excellent example of "different" not meaning "better". So I guess we do have something for which to thank the artist.

It seems simplistic to say that "dumb Japan thing" this is all the result of a fad. I understand some people are shallow fad-following sheep, for whom it might be so, but I think a great deal of it is genuine appreciation for the artistic traditions of the Japanese... Anime & Manga styles are certainly prone to fad, but I think when you get into more traditionally-influenced styles such as this the artist has done a little more homework and created something genuine. I really like this design, and I must say, it doesn't merely look Japan-influenced, it looks like many of the designs I have seen from actual Japanese artists. Furthermore, to those of you who say that the uber-kawaii themes in Japanese art disgust you... well, me too, to an extent. And while I don't deny their prevalence, I also know that there's more to Japanese art than that, both traditional & contemporary. I highly recommend: www.digmeout.net

I have to say I'm EXTREMELY weary of the iPod/personal music player thing (not music itself); it was kinda cute for a while but it hasn't ever meant much.

Japanese-inspired art never gets tired for me. I actually really like this, because the style reminds me a lot of a woodcut print.

But I look terrible in "natural", so no buy for me. If it had been printed on a deep red, I'd have snapped it up in a sec.

BUTTPLUGS SHOULDN'T LISTEN TO MUSIC.

it might give them ideas.

but enough knocking this shirt or the artist...it's one shirt of many, no one has to buy it, let's just leave the comments to 'i like it' 'i don't like it' and 'it makes me think of'....because there are a ton worse shirts out there.

Funny how some people are saying, "Who are you to say this?" somehow forgetting that in itself is an opinion. Right. Smart work there.

Knocking an artist personally is shabby, but critiquing a design I can't see as bad. "There are worse" is a flimsy argument. There are worse but ... there are better?

You know (in response to gloriana232), it does remind me of a woodblock, now that you bring that up. I LOVE woodblocks. They're gorgeous.
