So, let me start off by saying that this design is awesome, and as an aspiring marine biologist I love how many ocean themed shirts get printed on Threadless, although my bank account does not.

So I almost instantly grabbed this, but I'm hesitating because of the flipper on the whale. What is going on? A simple google search will reveal to you that spearm whale flippers look much like normal whale flippers, they don't have that line on them and they're a lot bigger and a lot less shaped like a rowboat paddle.

I know I'm being anal, but seriously, what was the idea behind that flipper?

Gasp! This must be another tragedy of t-shirt designers not being adequately educated in the field of the anatomy of whales.

You could always get it and sharpie in a bigger and more accurate whale fin, I guess. Or you could just wear it as-is and become the running joke of all of your marine biologist buddies.

"Pfff... Hahaha. Hahaha. Don't look now, but Kate's coming, and she's wearing that slightly inaccurate t-shirt! Haha. Don't say anything. Pfffffff hahahaha..."

Seriously though, that flipper DOES look weird.

I wouldn't care about the accuracy if the style wasn't going for realism.

And you're right, ProfessorE, it does look a bit like that. It doesn't look like the pictures of actual whales I was looking at, but that picture is a really good comparison. I wasn't trying to be a bitch or anything, I was honestly curious about where the artist got the impression that sperm whale flippers looked like the one in the design. Thanks for helping me out with that.
