What's your most important Failure?

Everyone is so obsessed with success in our society to the point that failure has become this huge void of shame as if it was evidence of some personal defect.

I just thought it would be neat to mix it up and rate our most important failures.

Mine: Dropping out of University. I travelled a bit, volunteered, returned to University a few years later a much more confident and sociable person and my grades are much better to boot. So yay failure.

Getting kicked out of my parents house..

Made me join the military since I had no where else to go. Now I am happy and doing awesome things I thought I would never do like deploy, and I have money for school, my own house, a career, a family. I thank my mom everytime I see her for kicking me out.

About 2 months ago I took a job as an account director at a small design firm. I hated them and they hated me. The kicker was a status meeting was a fight that saw me crying and screaming "I hate your guts!!!!" and running out the door.

Only problem was I locked myself out in the hallway and my coat, computer, money, car keys etc was at my desk.

I looked like a total asswipe douche when I knocked on the door to get my shit to crawl out.

I fucked up some really valuable and meaningful friendships, one in particular not so long ago, that pretty much destroyed any further interaction between us. I guess now though I have more peace of mind and time to focus on work because of it, so that's some good I guess.

My biggest failure was a Dee Dee Ramone haircut when I was 18. It was not a learning experience as I still have crap hair.

oops, actually it was about three months ago I started and about two months ago this happened.

I once came last in an 80 yard dash at an inter-school sports day even a fat kid beat me. I don't know if I learned anything from it but the next year, I finished third.

i got in a 4 and a half year relationship right outta high school. Now that it's over, I'm extremely out of the loop in how to court a female. I only have outdated pickup lines circa 2003. "Hey ladies, why dont you come over to my terminator 3 and ill show you the rise of my machine"

My marriage was an important. We started dating when we were 16 and got married at 22 and divorced at 26. Talk about being out of the loop of dating! Yikes.

I used to be one of the fastest kids in school. Then Sports Day came around and I failed spectacularly, finishing last in the 'running race'. It was then that I realised I'd become a fat kid and couldn't run anymore.

Correction - i I just kicked my USB out of my PC, destroying both my pc USB hub and the USB in the process and now i can't access my work. Whoops.

^ very philosophical Daniellesgarden. I agree, regardless of what's going on in your life, providing that you're getting your head out there, then you're part of it. I guess my thread was more about perceived social failures.

oh, this one time, when I was like 12, I decided I hated my eyebrows and then did a completely horrible, terribly uneven job of tweezing them. And then I had to live with that while they grew back. Massive fail.

Straight after getting my drivers licence I got a new job. In my first week they arranged me a rental car to visit the headoffice and guess what? That's right, I trashed the car. Great start.
