Hahaha! Best fancy-dress costume EVER!

I thought that robotics has just jumped up about 10 notches, but the fact that there's a dude inside that thing is still really impressive.

Thats a costume? I just assumed it was cgi.

i'm pretty sure that thing is animatronic. i remember seeing it once before. there's not really a guy in it is there?
fatheed
   fatheed on Jul 24 '08 at 4:50am
Part of the mechanism would most likely be classed as animatronic, but you can see the dude's legs.

The other immediate tell-tale sign is that it lifts it's leg off the floor to move. This is a hugely difficult to achieve in robotics/animatronics and has only recently been successfully (but still awkwardly) achieved in those Japanese humanoid robot spacemen things.

It's all to do with balance and how reidiculously complex it is to calculat weight distribution. Something we do without even thinking. But - with the gyroscope technology developed by Dean Kamen (creator of the Segway) I don't think that awesome bi-pod robots are that far away.

typos galore.

Turns out they can do it, but it looks completely unnatural and the surface area of the feet is huge to make balancing easier.

Still - AT-ATs are not too far away now.

oh man, this has made me so happy. being the guy inside there is probably one of the best and sweatiest jobs ever. I didn't even notice his legs at first, I was so thrilled!

and lolz, the robot talk just reminded me of the (wheeled, no legs) disco robot on TWIS's "World Robot Domination" segment last week. "Chase me, robot, chase me!"

seriously though that dinosaur is tits. I would be watching this all day today if the IT guys hadn't started monitoring our bandwidth usage.

That looks pretty cool. What's going on? Is this an exhibition or something? It looks like it's in a museum.

Also, the dinosaur looks kinda furry...

All about me

I'm actually 19 years old. Don't mind what the age above and to the left says. I'm a kick ass art appreciator with no artistic ability whatsoever. I enjoy long walks on the beach, stabbing people in jaws, OJ (the juice. not Simpson(although he was good in the Naked Gun)) steak, movies, and I love it when there are snakes on a plane.
