Is it just me, or are there a lot more 2nd-chance, resubs on the design pages. I thought once you submitted a design and it was declined, that was it. No second chances for any alterations based on feedback. The feedback on the design page is to help Threadless choose winners, not to give the artist some different ideas for resubmitting the same basic design.

If you want feedback on the design PROCESS, submit your design to the critique section of the blogs. When you think it's ready, move it up to the big leagues.

I think substantial redesigns are okay to resubmit, but after some time has passed (at least a month after scoring ends). It only really bothers me when people put the same thing back in the running, with a minor color change.

Actually, I'm going to change my mind a bit. Resubmissions should have to wait three months (not one, as I said before) after voting ends, as that is how long a designer would have to wait before submitting to another site.

Ok, that's fair enough.

The Decline Reasons on the submission page say that "designs changed slightly based on comments will still be treated as duplicates".
So this leads us into a discusiion about the extent of the word "slightly"...

It comes down to threadless staff usually I think. They deem whether a resub is too similar to an original sub. I've had one denied under my old username before because they saw it as too similar. It seemed quite different to me tho.

So, to me, i think if two subs get through that are too similar it is more the threadless authorities choice/fault not the artist. Can't blame them for trying.

but i agree that minor things like colour changes shouldn't be resubbed.

i agree for the most part, its annoying to see the same design (more or less) repeated by resubmission

if there's huge changes to a design, then im not as perturbed

Everyone should have a second chance. Think of all the desginers that sub'd an idea that was cruddy, then resub'd it and it was better, almost getting printed?

Isn't that what the critique section is for? No limit on chances there.

I don't think Threadless should throw out a potential winning shirt design because of a resubmit. This all of course is very subjective. One person's design might be excellent, but contain a small, fatal flaw. The fixing of which gives it a good chance of winning. Alternatively, someone with a poor design can make major changes and still end up with a poor design.

I don't think it's fair to give people zeros based on such trivialities. The person with the good design with minor changes is far more deserving of the decent score than the person with the poor design and major changes. But I agree that perhaps a month or 3 month wait time would encourage the designer to do it right the first time or take advantage of the critique section.

as someone who you have commented on about resubbed designs. i like to get critiques, and i like to go back and try to improve a design. i have been using the critique feature heavily, even before resubmitting redesigned concepts, but the fact of the matter is, its just not in high enough use yet. the best way to get comments on how to redesign and improve shirts is still submitting them to the main contest, where even if you are eliminated in a single day, you will get a clearer idea of what people like and dislike about your design. I do agree that if a design is exactly the same, it should not be resubbed, but if someone puts in hours of work to redesign the concept, the colors, and the details of a design, there is no reason they shouldn't feel free to submit a new version. thats how i feel about it. peace and goodtimes to all. ^_^

i think that the RESUB decision is in the hands of the staff and that we should vote accordingly

it really sucks when you say, "resub zero!" or whatever because the artist still put a lot of work into the submission.

i especially hate when they have like 4 different designs each the same but like the alteration of where in one somethings on the shoulder and another it's on the back. and ur like "didn't i just look at this"

there are times (very few) when the second doesn't just make u say "i'm soooooooo sick of this design"

Jebs has shown me an example of the right way to resubmit a design, here.
Here's the original. These are substantial changes made a year after the original was first submitted, and they really do improve the design.

This is my new standard for resubs - What Would Jebs Do?

Wow, that's a great example alright. It's ridiculous to me how many people still do resubs right after their previous ones are dropped- and it's almost always non-voters, so they really have no clue what an irritant that is.

The other thing that kills me is when people resub with changes, but only minor changes, and not changes to any of the things people commented on. I just don't even understand what that thought process consists of.

You're kind of weak man! I understand your point of view but you've been a member since July 18, 2006 and you still have the nerve to make a comment like you did. Until you submit your own sh*# you have no room homie!
