Well I didn't go partying or anything but I had an awesome day.

First I had to go to Georgetown to get my blood drawn. Ok, that wasn't fun but I pretended a vampire was feeding off my arm in the spirit of Halloween.

Then I wandered around DC (ok, I was lost for a lot of the time) and when I was going to the metro station by bus, I noticed a used bookstore and a bunch of people in front. So I impulsively got off and omg really cheap awesome books! So I got six books.

The books were heavy so I decided to ride the bus to my mom's deli since I didn't want to walk and drag the books home. So I got some food (free) from the deli and we went coat shopping. The coat I wear is like 6 years old and shrunk because my mom had it dry cleaned. :( So my mom bought me a coat.

I came home and found a package. I thought it was something I ordered but it was really from Kate! (ladykat)
aw kate

beads from kate
She sent me beads to make jewelry with! Some are from Senegal! Thank you so much Kate!! :) I'll take pictures when I make things from the beads!

Then I made fried marbles
Fried Marbles

and I am watching TV and working on my 3D Design project.

That was long but my day was pretty awesome. Yours?

fried marbles must be a good source of essential minerals! like zinc or something. or glass.

I don't think they're a registered food in a weight watchers diet though.

really smooth, tasteless, and round. like a hard candy with no taste that never melts!

nah, they're real simple to make! I need to find colored marbles to fry though. I'm going to make necklaces with them.:) Sounds like a pretty fun night! :D

bump because i see kate was on the blogs!

yeah you can fry or bake them but basically you have to heat them up and then plunge them into cold water and they crack on the inside and look awesome.

yay! take pics of the books and put them in "love your covers" please and thanks!

how do the marbles not shatter? how do you make jewelry out of them?

i was thinking about how you had bought the magazine envelopes and am wondering if it is possible to make them out of the covers of magazines since they are tougher. i'm also doing a bit of research of nice things to make out of magazines because i have a HUGE stack of craptastic ones and recycling them would be a hassle. i thought about seeing if making hotplates or something. OH and i saw a cute way to make beads out of magazines that made me think it was something you would enjoy.

um

hi

sorry for the ramble

yay for gifts (already commented in your flickr i think)

Wow, fried marbles.

That amazes me on so many levels.

Of course you could not pass up the leather bound books.

Leather bound books are so rad!

Nah, it's in Old Town Alexandria. I'll have to check the one out in Georgetown next time I'm there.

Yay, you got it! I think the glass beads I got in Senegal were actually made there, I was less sure about the wood ones, though.

Also, I love how the fried marbles look!

chelly, it probably is possible to and they'd be all eco-friendly! I think with the magazine pages, you could probably somehow combine a few pages or stick it to a sturdier paper. the only question is of course how to achieve that without making the magazine paper all wrinkly. :/

Are they like paper beads? They're fun! I'm experimenting with/selling paper chip beads/necklaces and I tried some magazine pages but they weren't strong enough; probably have to double or triple them up. hm.

I will take pictures and add to the group! All I know is that when glass goes from a really hot place (oven, frying pan) to cold (ice water), it cracks from the inside out. Or my favorite explanation...magic!

HorrorFan

yes, they're so awesome! they're actually teeny and old-looking but i can't stop touching them. :P

Monicaooh cool! I found out that the shop actually has two locations and one's sort of near my school. I'll have to explore, yay! :)

oh yay Kate! That's awesome! :D The beads are sooo pretty and I have no school Tuesday so I hope I can try to make some jewelry out of them.

the magazine jewelry that i saw used a varnish instead of glue. maybe that made it sturdier? have you ever checked out instructables.com? i love it; found it through etsy.
