Threadless

to anyone under the impression that this is an original design, i refer you to the sadies' album: http://www.amazon.com/Mayors-Moon-Jon-Langford-Sadies/dp/B000089CPV/ref=m_art_li_3/104-4837762-0511110

i like the graphic, but cmon... while eloquently packaging someone else's aesthetic has a place, it's not the threadless way.

That is because both artists got it from the same source, a famous silent movie. It's an homage.

That silent would be Georges Méliès's 1902 film "Le Voyage dans la lune", or "A Trip to the Moon."

I think so. Also in Moulin Rouge, if I'm not mistaken. It's terribly famous and shows up all over the place, either swiped directly from the source or parodied/copied in some other fashion.

The designer's description on the submission

"This is based off one of the most recognizable images in film history, a scene from George Melies' 105 year old film called Le Voyage dans la Lune (A Trip to the Moon), in which crazy astronomers shoot a rocket out of a cannon into the moon's eye, and explore it's surface. You can watch it on youtube if you like.

I felt such a strong iconic image as the moon (with albeit a modern) rocket in it's eye appropriate for a film festival tshirt that celebrates film and film making, as George Melies pioneered many moviemaking techniques, and created the first science-fiction film ever.

Best,

Kenneth."

just check out the artist's website

he's one of the most original artists out there

-k.

I would like to state for the record that I actually quite like the t-shirt. I wouldn't buy it simply because I hate the color yellow with a passion, but otherwise it's cool with me.

I didn't miss the point at all. The point was that it was unoriginal and my point was, yes, it shows up in a hell of a lot of places, but I like the t-shirt anyway.

"original" is overrated and probably a load of utopian bull.

I love the shirt and the intersting color. So what if it's not "original"? many people voted on it, it won, got printed, and i just ordered it. I'm a movie junkie and knew all about the movie, and I loved the artist's depection of it. So there.

I love that image.

I would have ordered this shirt by now if it was a dark color. But they'll probably never reprint now, because it doesn't seem to be selling well. (Because it's gold! augh!)
