Ok. So whilst brainstorming about the Revolution comp, I had (what I think at least) a pretty great idea. Here goes:
While there's a balance of good shit and bad shit going on in the world right now, the bad shit always seems to get more attention. Although it may sound contrived, one of my New Year's resolutions is to be more positive and proactive. Which leads me to the "revolutionary" idea - actively promoting positivity. Here's how it would work: 1: Write down a positive idea and send it to me. You can write it in your usual handwriting, do something more doodley or go all out with a typographic masterpiece. However you want it do it is A-OK! If you can scan it/create it and email it to me, that's great. I can handle any format (Illustrator, Photoshop, bitmap, whatever!) If you want to write on a napkin and mail it to me, that's cool too. Just as long as it's a positive idea (i.e. plant a tree, hug your parents, recycle beer cans, etc.), it will be used. 2: I'll take all of the positive ideas and lay them out on a t-shirt. Sounds simple enough, right? If there are enough ideas to necessitate a belt print, I'll design it as such. Otherwise, the design will just use the full front and full back of the tee. That's it! But what about the winnings, lunchboxbrain? I'm glad you asked me that. This is the best part of the idea - the cash prize will be donated to a charity TBD (to be determined). Additionally, the extra prize goodies will be auctioned off and that money will also be donated to a charity TBD. Not only will be actively promoting positivity by submitting a positive idea, you'll also be contributing money to worthy charities! I'm interested. What do I do next? It's easy - email me at lunchboxbrain at gmail dot comwith your positive idea by January 18. I'll email you back asking for an alternate idea if someone else has already submitted the same idea. After that deadline, I'll post up the design either here on the blogs or in the critique section and shortly thereafter, submit the design into the comp. I hope that we, as a community, can come together with a message of positivity. While I don't expect a t-shirt to change the world for the better, it's at least a start. Thanks and happy holidays! 3/14/08 UPDATE: While the Rev comp is over and done with, I'm still moving forward with this idea. I've started working on this and am still in need of samples/ideas/etc. I should have a WIP on my Flickr account at some point next week. Cheers! 5/9/08 UPDATE: So I've been working on this at a snails pace for a few months. Here's where it's at right now: ![]() 6/27/08 UPDATE:I'll finally finish this project this weekend and sub it on either Monday or Tuesday. Woohoo! I've also identified two charities that I'll donate this winnings to if this is selected for printing. Stay tuned... :) ![]()
