It's just dawned on me today after several weeks of listening that the excellent Muse album The Resistance (clue is in the title I guess) seems to be a warning about a authoritarian dystopia with particularly big nods towards 1984.

Anyone else worried about the the possibility of a one-world government?

Tony Blair is going to made the unelected President of the European Union, ffs! Appointed for services to the illuminati?

That forged WMD dossier was embarrassing at the time, but it seems to have paid off for him now.

Also - Obama signing the climate change treaty. How do you feel about that? Is climate change even real?

Who are the Rothschilds? And why do they want to implant a chip in me?

I hate all consolidation of power. I would prefer the U.S. went back to more states rights and less federal governing.

The debate isn't really on whether or not climate change is real, everyone (well, most) agrees that the planet goes through changes; it's more focused on whether or not we need to worry about it now, how much of it has been influenced by humans and what should/can be done about it.

Of course, I believe it's real and that it's happening now and it's all our fault.

There's a debate?! Of course it's real! Is that not common sense. As long as it doesn't have consequences within my lifetime, I don't care.

I find this fascinating...
MAP OF THE NEW WORLD MORAL ORDER

As devised by the British and Americans.

It's fucking crazy that this was the vision they had - but what's to say that this vision was not a 100 year project? Reading the footnotes at the bottom is the best. 'Hewbrewland' was certainly one of the things that has been accomplished. I'm glad they didn't go with 'Hewbrewland'. It sounds like the work theme park ever.

And oh man, Bramish, there is a huge debate. I've encountered quite a few people who have tried to tell me otherwise once they found out that I'm studying environmental science.
The most common argument that I have heard is that it's just the natural way in which the Earth works and that we should leave it alone.

And I know that there are other elements, Al. I wasn't being all that serious when I said it's all our fault. I had just assumed that everyone would have gotten that I was being overly dramatic.

Maybe I misunderstood. I thought "climate change" meant that the climate is changing. Which it is. But whether it's natural or not it's still climate change right?

Yeah, that's what I said before. Most people agree that it is changing. That's not the debate. Or at least, not the debate I've ever heard.
The debate lies more in what caused it, did anything even cause it, and what should or should not be done about it.

Humans are most definitely part of nature, we've evolved with our environment like all other animals, but with that evolution also comes our own downfall.
I mean, we've gotten to this point where we have all these snazzy cool things that really help us out. From transportation to medicine, it's pretty awesome. But with the continuous use of our resources to create these materials we're soon going to run out.
Or yeah, we're part of nature, but I think often times people forget that link and forget just how much we really do depend on it.

technology has done it's part: it's kept us at a safe distance from nature being "too close" to us and hurting us and at the same time created enough separation to where we've lost our natural way.

I would actually like to see something done about the shitty car fumes. Most urban areas including our house have a permanent black dust on them and it would be nice if there was no shitty car fumes.

Other than that, I don't know what to think about climate change. Remember the ozone? That was all the rage in the 90s. I think it's being repaired now.

It is pretty evident that we are moving closer to the eventual world ruled by one government type situation. It won't be even all that hard to do anyways. With enough work, world leaders could damn near make citizens demand it.

As for climate change, it is not just humans or just natural cycles, the combination of the two is what could make it potentially dangerous.

I'm just glad to know I'm not the only one that has listened exclusively to the new Muse album since it was released.

I don't know what all this jazz about global warmin' is! My great-great-great-grandpapi rode dinosaurs to the market! And he didn't write about no ice age!
Khol
Khol on Oct 26 '09 at 5:41pm
So true, Alan.

The thing with the ozone was that it was a relatively easy fix (although, it'd dodgy to really say it's fixed seeing as how that can never really be done). But, it was mitigated pretty fast one we realized which chemicals were causing it and once those chemicals stopped being used.
Now, shitty car fumes on the other hand is a bigger problem with no one-step solution. You've got population, consumption, land management, oil trade etc. all working together to cause that problem.
And we just recently (like, in April) got Congress to finally recognize that carbon dioxide (in excessive amounts) is a pollutant.
