Hahaha. I had a hard time explaining it to my parents when I told them it had won. Again, this started as a throwaway sketch with a female sex-doll looking terrified (as usual) by the sight of an inflatable crocodile. This idea developed into a scene where the crocodile was coming at her out of the water on a river bank, then the man sex-doll was introduced, and I had them both running away from the croc. In the end, I just tried to simplify it as much as possible and let the concept sell itself. The idea of each character acting as an inflatable character would without any sort of animation or articulation became the preferred route for the concept. The female doll’s ‘action’ pose lent itself to shock, and the male doll’s complete lack of anything meant he was destined to become an unsuspecting victim. With these in mind, the scene kind of naturally unfolded into what you see now – and I added the headphones to the male doll so he was unable to hear her desperate cries. It was suggested that the male should be swimming, but I was reluctant to allow the dolls to perform in any way that would make the scene ‘unrealistic’ - as stupid as that might sound. I think what added value to the concept in the end is that it could be achieved in real life by arranging each of the inflatable characters in that way. At least, that amused me. Also, I owe a big thanks to the bloggers who help me to decide whether to go for the risqué route of nudity, or the safe-bet route of clothed.
