After several months of tees that just didn't really interest me, the past few weeks have had many surprisingly awesome shirts, both new and reprints. I'm in no position to be spending money on more T-shirts, but can't resist when a bitchin reprint comes along or find a brand new design that just oozes with awesome. I thought I had quenched my t-shirt thirst, but the following week, another irresistable goodie, and another chunk of change missing from my bank account. Anyone else feel the bittersweet sting of the awesome shirts lately?
about The Communist Party
So at the DEVO show in Dallas, TX last week, I decided to wear my Communist Party shirt. I've always been a believer that wearing a band's shirt to that band's concert is a little lame, so I try to avoid it. Now DEVO shows can be an exception, what with all the red energy dome hats and 30 years of devolved punk rock, it's easy to want to dress up and show your allegiance. But i chose a red shirt with Marx in a lampshade, which was close to wearing a red energy dome, but not. Apparently I wasn't the only one who chose this shirt as fitting attire to see DEVO. While waiting in line, I saw another dude wearing it. Normally this situation would be marked with embarassment, a few lost originality points. But with Threadless shirts, I'm happy to see a fellow threadless wearer. I didn't actually run into the guy untill the very end of the show. I had moved back from the the very front of the stage to position myself for the bouncy balls Mark Mothersbaugh would soon be throwing from his crotch. I just happened to run into the guy on my way out. We volleyed a round of "Hey nice shirt" and that was it. Pretty cool. DEVO is my favorite band and threadless is my favorite source for bitchin t-shirts. about Zombie Donkey
rocks about Captain Awesome
I really didn't think that when my sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate to threadless for x-mas, it would because my new obsession. I've wanted to become a graphic designer and threadless is the perfect excuse for practicing my skills and leanring new techniques. I'm still new at Illustrator and the whole 4 color thing, but I'm getting there. I would love to have a scanner so I could use some hand drawn art. But for now, I'm having fun coming up with new ideas, voting on all the great submissions, and expanding my t-shirt wardrobe. At the movie theater the other day, the ticket guy staring at my Captain Awesome shirt. I smiled and said "Threadless" and he nodded. He's probably still wondering "who IS this Captain Awesome and how come I don't know about him!?" |
