For those of you with record players
I got two questions

1. What should I do if the cartridge slides on the record while it's playing?
2. How do I get rid of the static popping noise?

What's sliding on the record?



And why in the world would you want to get rid of the static?! Most of the times you can't, it's just the way the record is. You can try a different stylus, but it mostly likely won't make much of a difference.

The part where the circle is is what's sliding.



About the static, a couple times a minute there's loud popping. I didn't know if that was normal or not.

there is a reason CDs replaced records and tapes for the most part



analog is for chumps...



some hissing and pops are inevitable given the technology of the record



maybe the cartridge is just worn as to the sliding.



/plays one of the 11K or so MP3s on HTPC ...

I'm not quite sure how exactly it's sliding if the stylus is on the record. Wouldn't it be skipping then?



As for the loud popping, does it happen with every record? It's more than likely just the album. Some of my records pop loudly at certain spots.

By sliding I mean don't mean like side to side...it just sits on there with the needle. I'll try some more records and see about the popping.

Cleaning the record first with one of these helps:

You may need to move the needle a little closer in from the edge to stop that sliding.

yes, try cleaning it. make sure no dust is on the needle, etc. but i like that static sound

Static is awesome. but if it's really bugging you get one of those shmanzy velvet brushes to clean off your record
