about HI
This shirt got a really low score yet was printed, where designs of mine got higher scores and where not printed, how is that done? Or is threadless just choosing shirts that they like?

Kind of annoying.

whats so depth about a font that says hi?
twniehaus
   twniehaus on Jun 26 '06 at 9:32pm
your designs arent anywhere near this design. this shirt is good. its not about scores anymore thank god. or not as much about scores. the voters are dumb nowadays so its not taken as seriously.
sonmi
   sonmi on Jun 26 '06 at 9:40pm
shirts over 3.x are usually a given to be printed, so i'm glad threadless throws in the lower scoring ones now and then.

people always use the argument that if something looks easy, then anyone could have done it. but you know, you didn't do it! this is a unique shirt (and if you say it isn't- i'll refer back to your robot/rabbit design), and presents a good variety to the threadless catalog.

people need to stop being so bitter about what is and isn't printed.
kaloyster
   kaloyster on Jun 26 '06 at 9:56pm
Very well said, sonmi (and oh great songs, too!).

Think of printed designs with low scores (Mona Prankster, Gasp! etc.) their execution are rarely used and that makes them unique. The design stands out on its own. That's what Threadless is after.

milesj
milesj on Jun 26 '06 at 10:05pm
haha i didnt know u posted one ryan.

i know my robot wasnt unique, i did that one on purpose just to test things and people told me to submit it anyways.

but how is the hi unique, ive seen many shirts and or fonts with that same type of feel to it.
kaloyster
   kaloyster on Jun 26 '06 at 10:16pm
Unique meaning in every batch of printed stuff, there is no two design/concept alike. Like for example:

Hi = simplistic greeting font

Virgin eye = comedy giant squid

label's Lucha = poster-like design with shiny shiny foil

Decay = dramatic-styled koi

Treachereous waters = one of a kind iceberg formations

Sassie = funny parody of the legend

(As you may notice, there isn't design with the same concept as the other)

And for example three robot designs get a score of 3 - 4, they wouldn't print them all (again because of the same reason)

it's not that the voters "don't matter anymore" of course we matter, they refer to the higher scoring subs to see if they like them enough to print them, and we also contribute to the 1.5 rule, we kick out the stuff we don't want to see. In the end if Threadless thinks something is awesome, but underappreciated in the scoring then they will print it.
kaloyster
   kaloyster on Jun 27 '06 at 1:24am
if Threadless thinks something is awesome, but underappreciated in the scoring then they will print it

See? So it's right that they get the last pick (and last laugh)
theymightbepoz
theymightbepoz on Jun 27 '06 at 1:26am
Of course they still have last pick, but we (as voters) don't not matter anymore (READ: we still do matter) as many people had said. We are an intergral part of this community, except it's less of a democracy and more of an oligarchy
milesj
milesj on Jun 27 '06 at 1:53am
The contest should be set in concrete, if the rules say the highest scoring should win then they should win.

Someone who gets a 1.75 should not win the $2000 just cause threadless likes the shirt, thats a bunch of bullshit.
theymightbepoz
theymightbepoz on Jun 27 '06 at 1:58am
the rules don't say that....they say

"We look at the top 300 designs every couple of weeks and pick out around 10 designs that we want to print based off of the designs score, comments, and the number of i'd buy it's. Ultimately the decision of which shirts get printed are left up to us. The scoring system helps give us a general idea of which designs our customers want."
plastikaa
   plastikaa on Jun 27 '06 at 2:08am
The rules shouldn't be concrete, that would be silly, you can think a design is cool, say you fairly like it - but you maybe wouldnt buy it. I dont know exactly how threadless decide but I presume a sub with a score of 2 with 1,000 id buy its is more likely to be printed than a shirt with a score of 3 with 200 id buy its. Scores do mean something - the top so many shirts each week are shorlisted for the threadless staff to look at I believe, sometimes something can get a high score and not get printed.

Why should a company which makes tshirts - gives designers some money and sell the end product, not get to choose what they make in the final decision?

If you had a score of like 3.8 or something incredible I could slightly see your point but 2.12 and 1.48 aren't exactly the higher scores I've ever seen not printed.

i think this shirt is awesome

im happy becasue threadless take a look to all the submisions and print even the low scores looking for something new and different!

congrats ray!

When Hi sells out, you'll see why it was printed.

Also, if you don't think it's that original, how's about you link up some similar shirts to back that up?

...also... Ray does have depth... look at his other subs.

Magical Powers is a very clever design, and very original.

Here's a thought: buy what you like, don't buy what you don't like, and write a letter to threadless if you _really_ care.

Or maybe just read the other 10 threads. :)

i think this design is pretty neat.

i like it a lot more than most of the designs printed.

anyway... doesn't matter that your shirts got higher scores. i got some higher scores than printed designs... threadless will print what they want. i believe the scores do matter. i doubt they would print something that no one said they'd buy.

and no offence but the hi shirt is sweeter than your designs... in my opinion.

and i'm not saying you suck. i just find the hi more interesting... and i'd actually wear it .. i think...

but i wont be buying it because the shirts fit like crap and feel like potato sacks.
They Call Me Special K

you only have one design that scored higher and it was a much worse sub. it only scored higher because voters are idiots who love puns and corner placements.

if you're not trying, then stop talking shit to someone who clearly is, and who has been rightfully rewarded.
