If you had a place to output your work that played awesome music, served good coffee and had amazing quality output, was open late, free wi-fi, offered workshops, had couches, nice atmosphere. It's a print shop/design firm/art lounge/design cafe. You can do your work there, get supplies, print a project, lounge on the couches. Rentable Macs/PCs with adobe and everything, would you use it?

I would tell them that I liked their stupid tattoos, then I would make love to them with my eyes

Realistically I'd be iffy on it for a few reasons..
#1 "cool music" is subjected. If it wasn't something I loved I'd find music more of a distraction than a help.
#2 I'm not a mac person.. if given a choice I'd always pick a PC

But other than that... the color scheme is cool. I also really love local coffee shops. And I LOVE the idea of a place that would offer small workshops (i'd pay for workshops if i felt they were something geared towards my interest)

good suggestions, about coziness, and being corporate. I'll see if I can't inject some coziness.

Yeah agree. Also agree with pyr4lis about the music and macs.

I don't understand the "output your work" part. Is it basically a snazzy net cafe?
celandinestern

definitely a more cozy feel. and music needs to be sooooft, whatever it is. and I'm clueless with a mac, but I guess I gotta learn sometime if I want to ever be taken seriously in cool circles.

I love vegging out and mucking on my laptop in cozy cafes, so it would be a big yes for me, on the whole. Also it would be so great if it had snacks too, lovely stuff like fresh fruit and avocado sandwiches and rocket salads and stuff. And the air conditioning would have to be set at normal levels, like not sub-zero. And the workshops idea is fabulous.

*wonders if getting some stupid tattoos would help her qualify as a hot art chick*

But if you're renting out Macs shouldn't it looks creepy and white and sterile and hard and cold and corporate just like it does now? Lose the green light and it's practically the Apple store. And if there's one things Mac users like, it's the Apple store.

You should play music through headphones and people can choose their station, like on an aeroplane. That way they don't have to be distracted if they don't want to and can choose their own subjective level of awesome.

Yay it's working!! umm I mean, sure. I know a nice cat cafe in Tokyo where we can discuss stain aesthetics and get ignored by the finest cat breeds.

That I would be way down with! Something really cozy with only moderate levels of light. Big mismatched couches and a house cat. My favorite place is a used bookstore that has unmatched couches and an adorably scruffy one eyed cat who's so friendly. If they offered coffee and snacks I don't know if I'd ever leave.

And snacks. I just hope selling a few snacks wouldn't cause an undue amount of red tape to wrestle with.

I'm trying to open for the Rhode Island art/college/small business market. Close to RWU because these services are desperately needed there. Also it would be nice to open one around RISD.

looks pretty imposing. put in lots of old couches and use it as an art gallery for first fridays and local artists. you could even make it like a creative gym with classes, screenprinting and other areas and maybe a small monthly fee.

where's the bathrooms? I always judge a good establishment on the quality of the bathrooms. That is why Chic-fil-a is so awesome. and Target. Never worried about flying deuce air in those places.

it would be awesome if you had a few separate areas with different feels to them, so everyone could find their place. Like someone will enjoy working slumped back into a puffy couch, but someone else might like a desk. I'd adore to work in the window, like this, but that might not be up everyone's alley. The areas could have different light levels too.

Celandinestern: I agree that the space needs lots more kinds of seating. I like your idea of the window bar. There will be an outside/patio area too with couches and seating.

The color palette probably won't change, but I could balance the the flood of black with more white, and all the funiture will be
uper-modern minimalist, but that doesn't mean it can't be cozy or comfy. I could have a black house cat, that'd be fine (unless he got caught in a self-serve printer or something). One of my goals is to design a space that had a swank cold/modern aesthetic that is also very comfortable.

Just got more work to do to get it right.
